A Daughter Remembers; Maria Janis To Visit Abbey
BETHLEHEM â On Sunday, November 28, Maria Cooper Janis will autograph copies of her new book, Gary Cooper Off Camera: A Daughter Remembers, at the Monastic Art Shop at the Abbey of Regina Laudis.
Written with a fresh and open style, the book introduces the reader to Gary Cooper, husband, father and friend, as well as an Academy Award-winning actor who reverently and painstakingly studied the heroes he portrayed on screen. Ms Janis, the only child of Cooper and his wife Rocky, presents the experience of a unique American family, whose spirit is beautifully conveyed through her bookâs many photos (most never before seen) and through the words thoughtfully drawn from the authorâs own journals, as well as her famous fatherâs private writings.
Maria Cooper Janis will be at the Monastic Art Shop on the first weekend of its Annual Christmas Craft Sale. Each year the Abbey offers its handmade pottery, weaving, beeswax candles, stained glass ornaments, as well as herbal and beauty products in the shop which also serves as an art gallery. Also on display are original works by R.M. Placid Dempsey.
The book signing will take place Sunday, November 28, from 10 am until noon. To order Gary Cooper Off Camera: A Daughter Remembers in advance, or for more information, call the Monastic Art Shop at the Abbey of Regina Laudis at 203/266-7637. The abbey is on Flanders Road in Bethlehem; signs are posted from Route 6 in Woodbury.
