Albert Gollenberg Jr
Albert William Gollenberg, Jr, 97, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Hamden, died October 29. He was the son of the late Albert and Marie Schweitzer Gollenberg in Danbury, born September 3, 1919.
In addition to his devoted wife, Doris, his brother, George Gollenberg, and his wife, Rosemarie, of Newtown; as well as his three children and their spouses, Lynn and Robert Scudieri of Naples, Fla., Wayne and Eloise of Thomaston, and Keith and Sandra Gollenberg of Granby, Conn., and Naples, Fla., survive him. He is also survived by two stepchildren and their spouses, Bradley and Theresa Feldhaus of Mt Airy, Md., Marilyn and David Gross of San Jose, Calif.; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His late wife, Grace Prokopy Gollenberg, predeceased him in 1975.
Mr Gollenberg was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1943, serving as a fighter pilot and earning the rank of second lieutenant.
In 1977, he married Doris Joern Feldhaus. They lived in Hamden until relocating to Baltimore in 2005.
Mr Gollenberg was widely active in North Haven, Hamden, and the State of Connecticut. He worked in sales and management for Sentry Insurance. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Farms Country Club in Wallingford. He served as president of the Arthritis Foundation of Connecticut, was a member of the Board of Directors for the Combined Health Appeal, and was a 50-year member of the North Haven Lions Club, where he held numerous offices. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Hamden, where he served as president and held countless offices over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oak Crest Village Benevolent Care Fund or Scholars Fund, 8800 Walther Boulevard, Baltimore MD 21234.
There will be a memorial service at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown, on Saturday, November 19, at 11 am. Interment will be private at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Danbury.
