Feinstein 16th In New England Cross Country Championships
Jake Feinstein was Newtown High Schoolâs only qualifiers for the 77th New England Cross Country Championships, which took place in North Scituate, RI this past week. Feinstein was 16th in a time of 16:18 for the 5k course as he fought through a cramp that hampered him shortly after the first mile.
By finishing in the top 25, Feinstein made the All New England team. He was the third fastest underclassmen in the race. Feinstein will compete in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships in Sunken Meadow State Park (Long Island, NY) on November 26. The top 20 finishers will qualify for the Foot Locker National Championships in San Diego.
Feinstein finished fifth in the State Open in 15:58. Teammate Dieter Gutbrod placed 45th in 16:47, Pat Sullivan placed 55th in 16:58, Jordan Hensel was 112th in 17:32, and Mitchell Russo rounded out the top five with a 127th place finish in 17:43. Also racing were Palmer Lintz and Paul Mangiafico who placed 158th and 165th in 18:21 and 18:34, respectively.
The NHS girls placed 19th at the Opens with the high finisher, Katie Burns, placing 63rd in 20:17. Also scoring for the Nighthawks were Hannah Schwartz (87th, 20:36), Jenny vanVeen (117th, 21:00), Brianne Moulder (129th, 21:09), Erin Begg (133rd, 21:12), Reagan Cerney (160th, 21:42), and Kristen Degirolamo (178th, 22:37).
