Toys And Trains At Wilton Heritage Museum

Dear Friends:

I’ve been so busy with the Delaware Antiques Show and the Wilton Historical Society Craftsmanship Show (both on the same weekend) that I haven’t been able to prepare an interesting article for this show section. In lieu of that, I’d like to tell you about what is going on at the Wilton Heritage Museum.

As I write this, our “train men” are setting up the colorful and exciting exhibition of multiple running trains, which fill the exhibition gallery, which opens on December 9 and runs until February 3. Adults and children love to see the trains running around the tracks.

In addition, we have one of the largest collections of toys, dolls and dollhouses in the state. Our miniature rooms are fascinating. The 14 period rooms offer an excellent view of American decorative arts from 1740 to 1910.

Special thanks to Stuart Horn, our toy benefactor from Centerville, Del. Stuart, a former dealer, is generously donating his personal collection to the Wilton Historical Society. These iron toys are an important addition to our collection.

We have many activities going on during the Holiday season, and I invite you to visit the Wilton Heritage Museum at 224 Danbury Road (Route 7) in Wilton — it really is worth a trip from anywhere.

The Holiday Show, on Sunday, December 2, offers an incredible line-up of dealers with an amazing variety of interesting antiques. Where else will you find so much folk art, ceramics, fine furniture and country furniture, decorative accessories, fine art, Twentieth Century material as well as Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century objects? Even though the show is on for only one day (due to the difficulty of using the Field House) the presentation and quality is comparable to any other highly regarded show. It’s a rare opportunity to see so much in a relaxed atmosphere.

I do hope that we’ll see you in Wilton on December 2.

Marilyn
