PETER BLUM SOHO SHOWS HUMA BHABHA AND MATTHEW DAY JACKSON
ak/gs set 11/15 #719738
NEW YORK CITY â Peter Blum Gallery is showing the exhibition âHuma Bhabha and Matthew Day Jackson, Sculptures and New Print Editionsâ at Peter Blum SoHo, 99 Wooster Street. On view through January 12, the exhibit features new print projects and recent sculptures by Huma Bhabha and Matthew Day Jackson.
Bhabhaâs portfolio, Reconstructions, consists of 16 photogravures and two woodblock prints. Bhabha draws colossal figures, feet or other forms over photographs of landscapes littered with abandoned foundations that she took in her native Pakistan. In addition, the two woodblock prints feature feet, an iconic image found throughout Bhabhaâs oeuvre.
Jackson has created three new print projects from the âDymaxion Series,â a reference to Buckminster Fullerâs inventions. âDas Wochenendhausâ is an installation of 16 prints of multiple techniques, which together comment on various utopian visions in Americaâs history. In the triptych âMissing Link (Lady Liberty),â Jackson utilizes a found poster illustrating Degasâ dancer, while also referencing imagery by Goya and Hiroshige. Jacksonâs portrait of Buckminster Fuller, entitled âBucky (ROYGBV),â pays homage to the visionary thinker shown before his geodesic dome.
New sculptures by Bhabha and Jackson will also be on view.
