Many Questions, Few Answers

To the Editor:

What’s happening with Fairfield Hills?

So many questions; so few answers!

I wish I knew what our town leaders are thinking when it comes to the town’s purchase of Fairfield Hills. Will there be a master plan and a site plan? Will land be set aside for a 21st century school? Will Park and Rec get Plymouth Hall and use of the gym, bowling alley, etc. for youth and senior programs? Will the Labor Day Book Sale continue at Bridgeport Hall? Will some town offices continue at FFH? Will the school system continue to use Canaan House? Will the public have access to open space and trails? Will Newtowners be welcome at FFH to enjoy the beauty and the setting?

Or will the town leaders opt for economic development in hopes that the tax revenue in 5-10 years from now will offset increased traffic, new employees with children for our schools and continued demand for housing and services?

Who will decide? Our elected officials or the voters of Newtown? Will we, the taxpayers, have a choice?

Will our leaders let a developer decide these issues? I wish I knew.
