Rotary Group Study Exchange

Applications are now being accepted by area Rotary clubs for foreign study trips for young Connecticut business and professional people. These international vocational and cultural experiences are fully paid for by Rotary’s Group Study Exchange (GSE) program. Eight slots are available, four each to Argentina and South Africa, for travel during the entire month of April, 2000.

The Rotary program promotes international understanding by exchanging visits of young business and professional people with their counterparts overseas. Led by Connecticut Rotarians, the successful applicants will have full schedules. They will meet and exchange views and methods with foreign counterparts in the same occupations, be able to develop professional and personal relations and develop a deep understanding of their host country’s culture. Participants will be hosted by Rotary Clubs in the two countries and will stay with local families.

Applicants must be US citizens, between 25 and 40 years of age, live or work in the area and be enthusiastic about their respective vocations. Interested persons should contact the District Rotary GSE Committee at 860/885-1098 or via e-mail at RotaryTrip2000@aol.com. Local Rotary contacts are Ed Osterman at 426-0530 or David Kaufman at 426-9703. The applications must be made promptly as candidate interviews will begin soon.

Since 1984, the GSE program with Connecticut Rotary Clubs has included the Philippines, Thailand, India, Australia, Japan, Switzerland, Brazil, France, England, Germany, Turkey and Sweden.

There is a legend that the alcoholic spirits distilled on Still Hill Road were made into toddies nearby on what became known as Toddy Hill Road.
