Nicholas Caruso, son of Patrick and Joanne Caruso of Sandy Hook and a freshman at Canterbury School in New Milford, has been named to the honor roll (highest honors) for the first marking period of the 1999-2000 school year.

Newtown residents Courtney Jackson and Douglas Spell are among 27 students who are participating in Furman University’s study abroad program in Shanghai, China, this fall. They will return to the States in mid-December. In this program, the students travel around the western part of China and then Beijing before moving into dormitories of East China Normal University in Shanghai, where they study the Chinese language, literature, history and culture. Courtney Jackson is the daughter of Judith Jackson of Flat Swamp Road, and Douglas Spell is the son of Charles E. and Carol A. Shell of Joan Drive.

Meghan Bennett

 

Meghan Bennett of Newtown has been selected as a University of Wisconsin-Platteville Resident Assistant for Morrow Hall for the 1999-2000 academic year. As an RA, she will inform students of university resources and programs, work with various aspects of hall government, develop an educational atmosphere, encourage involvement, and deal with personal and disciplinary concerns. Meghan is a 1996 graduate of Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, and is the daughter of Joan and Dennis Bennett. She is studying elementary education.

Sandy Hook resident Todd Badillo was named to the University of Maryland’s chapter of the Golden Key National Honor Society. The society recognizes 15 percent of college juniors and seniors in all fields of study at 285 leading universities throughout the world.
