Christian Scientists Plan

Thanksgiving Day Service

SOUTHBURY — On Thursday, November 25, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Southbury, will hold a Thanksgiving Day Service from 11 am to noon.  All are welcome to attend the service, which will be held at all Christian Science Churches around the nation.

The Bible lesson to be heard in Southbury will be exactly the same as the one that will be read in every state in the union.  At the Thanksgiving Day Service, all are welcome to give thanks to God, or to listen to others do so.

Every week, Christian Scientists hold a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, which is open to the public.  At these Wednesday evening meetings they give thanks for the healing effects of prayer in their daily lives.  Consequently, expressing gratitude for blessings is a regular part of life as a Christian Scientist.

The Thanksgiving Day service will include the President’s Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, and the Thanksgiving Day Christian Science Bible Lesson with reading from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.  The congregation will be invited to join in singing hymns, silent prayer, the Lord’s Prayer, and to share testimonies and expressions of gratitude.

Sunday School age children are welcome at this service, and may also give thanks if they wish to do so.  Children too young to attend the service will be cared for in the children’s room at the church.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Southbury, 27 Roxbury Road, is on the corner of Route 6 east and Route 67 north. Call 262-1944 for more information.
