DANBURY 4, STRIKERS 1: Speed and ball movement set the pace of the game on the turf at Western Connecticut State University. Fighting back from an early 2-0 deficit was tough for Newtown. Nathan Walzer was strong in goal for the Strikers with David Anderson and Devon Manfredonia aiding in the defensive stand. Andrew Fiscella also played well in goal with Jeff Brunaska and Matthew McFadden strengthening the defense. Patrick Kiely scored the lone Newtown goal.
STRIKERS 3, GREENWICH 0: David Anderson, Marcus Tracy and Ryan Taplin all scored second-half goals to lead the Strikers over Greenwich. Mathew Miller provided an assist. Sean Rawson and Peter Dittmar played well in the midfield with Brian Smith controlling the center. The defense was strong in front of goaltenders Nathan Walzer and Andrew Fiscella.
STRIKERS 3, REDDING 1: In a rematch of the division co-champs, Redding and Newtown squared off in the final game of the season. In their last meeting, the teams tied 1-1, placing both clubs in a tie for the division title. On Sunday, the Striker offense was aggressive and confident and when Marcus Tracy laced a ball to the crossbar, the rebound was gathered up and netted by Mike Vanasse. Mathew Miller finished the first-half scoring after receiving a cross from Matthew McFadden. Redding scored in the second half, but Tracy scored for the Strikers after scooping a rebound off a Vanasse shot. Chris Wolcott and Brian Smith dominated the midfield with David Kugielsky and Patrick Kiely adding pressure up front.

ROCKETS 6, NEW FAIRFIELD 0: Mary Anders and Siobhan Cooper scored two goals apiece to lead the Rockets to the win over New Fairfield, clinching the Northwest District championship. Tara Gaston and Christie Zingoni also scored while Gaston, Tori Thomas and Casey Frobey all shared time in the net for the shutout. Caitlin Hansen, Maria Cinquegrana and Jill Tanner all played well in the midfield while Emily Fields and Megan Rawson anchored the defense.

KNIGHTS 7, SOUTHBURY 3: The Knights finished the fall season with a convincing victory and a chance to end up tied for first place in the division. Southbury didnât have a chance as Newtown riddled the opposing keeper with shot after shot. Scott Kohn, Will Brooks, Alister Ratcliff and Louis Ritzinger kept the ball moving forward to secure a win.Goals came from Marc Doherty, Alex Meisel, Matt Taylor and David McLaughlin while Chris Hoagland added three.
KNIGHTS 3, BROOKFIELD 1: The Knights controlled the midfield play to send rival Brookfield home with a loss. The playmaking skills of Noah Kugielski, Jonathan Hartlett, Jeff Lipnick and Alex Naldini forced two own-goals. Forwards Max Barrett and Danny Kearns kept the pressure up front and Matt Taylor found the back of the net with a blast in the victory.
Girlsâ U11 Travel
NITROS 6, BROOKFIELD 0: Doing her usual superb job at sweeper, Rachael Perretta along with the strong defensive support of Rose Jackman, helped secure the shut-out. The offensive attack was started by Nicole Sieber, who turned in a hat-trick, and was continued by Kristi Nowak, Kyla Miles and Perretta, with one goal apiece. Lindsay Weber provided strong mid-field support while Rachel Eastman moved the ball well at the top.

AFTERSHOCK 1, DOGNABBERS 1: Ethan Canfield scored on an assist from Matt Boland to lead the Dognabbers while Colin Babbage scored to lead the Aftershock. For the âNabbers, Gabriel Giusti, Connor McManus and Michael Iorfino all played well while, for the âShock, Brendan Martin, Conor Martin and Nick Rosa had strong games.
Boysâ U10 Travel
VIPERS 2, WILTON 2: Drew Taylor scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of play, but the Vipers did all they could to hold on to a tie. Kevin Troy and Nick Kallivrousis played well in the midfield while Gregg Rodden was strong in goal. Alex Bowen and Tony Gallucci helped to spark the offense.
VIPERS 4, BROOKFIELD 0: With the divisionâs first-place championship on the line, the Vipers finished off the final regular season opponent with a venemous shutout. The tension of the tight first half was broken when center-mid Justin Miller, in traffic, placed a low ball past the Bobcat goalie from the 18-yard box. Max Hoagland and Drew Taylor netted second half goals off assists from Alex Bowen and Chris Meier and Meier finished off the scored with a power shot into the lower left corner. Paul Andras was dominating with both midfield and defensive play helping Jason Smith once again anchor the defense in front of goaltender Danny Smith. The Vipers recorded their seventh shutout of the season. The Vipers scored 39 goals in 11 games, allowing just seven.

NAVIGATORS 1, NEW MILFORD 1: Rachel Maley scored the lone goal for the Navigators, who managed to hit the post three times on the day. Katie Kirrane, Harriet Morgan and Julie Landin all came close to scoring. Dana Schunter and Alana Bilangi also had opportunities. Christie Attanasio and Jaclyn Petrasanta led the defense while Ashley Braun, Bethany Morin, Claire Ober and Caroline Kraich had solid games for the âGators, who finished up 3-1-1 in their last five games.
Boysâ F Division
HURRICANES 3, ROCKETS 1: Ricky Gallucci scored a pair of goals and Andrew Meisel added one to lead the âCanes to the win. Daniel McSweeney and Kyle Kromberg dominated the midfield. For the Rockets, Josh Baron knocked in the goal with an assist from Dan Clements. Mike Hubbard was strong in goal.
SCORPIONS 3, RAPTORS 0: Tyler Edwards scored a pair of goals on assists from Ethan Carotti to lead the Scorpions to the win. Steven Juroszewski also scored. Shane Wurtz and Mikey Tobin had good games. For the Raptors, Kristopher Arnmdt, Timmy Amone and Brandon Ching all played well.
SENSATION 3, ROCKETS 2: Connor Collier scored three goals to lift the Sensation past the Rockets. Theo Hartlett, Timmy Culligan and Zachary Bryan provided support. For the Rockets, Josh Baron scored both goals. Danny Clemens and Christopher Marks helped out on offense while Benjamin Miles and Alex DiNoto anchored the defense.
WILDCATS 4 Team (#16) 0: Michael Giglio, Brian Reszoly, Michael Cagganello and Peter Walsh all scored the lead the Wildcats to the win.
WILDCATS 2, ROCKETS 2: Brian Reszoly of the Wildcats and Matt Hill of the Rockets scored two goals apiece in a hard-fought tie. For the âCats, Matthew Vitts, Kyle Moore and Greg Demenna all played well and, for the Rockets, Wesley Yllanes and Joseph Zimmerman led the defense.
TORNADOES 3, ROADRUNNERS 0: Harrison Gillis, Joshua Wolf and Kyle Droniak scored to lead the Tornadoes to the win. George Zaruba and Remi McDonough both played well on defense. For the Roadrunners, Drew Woods, Ian Mason, Spencer Snell and Joseph Capiello had good games.
Girlsâ F Division
TORNADOES 4, EAGLES 2: Chelsea Fay, Kate Bowen, Cassie David and Molly Curry all scored as the Tornadoes edged the Eagles. For the Eagles, Nora Lynn Shimko and Emily DeMarco scored goals while Ellen Ritzinger and Kristen Tanner had solid games.
TIMBERWOLVES 2, MEAN MACHINE 0: Haley Keane and Kelley Sullivan scored one goal each to lead the Timberwolves to the win. Rebecca Castegner and Ellen Tabler paced the defense. For the Mean Machine, Jordyn Good and Lisa Favicchia anchored the defense while Kristine Zadrovitz and Nicole Escoda paced the offense.
HURRICANES 1, UNICORNS 0: Jacqueline Fisher scored off a Rebecca Jaroszewski assist to lift the Hurricanes to victory. Jennifer Desrosiers, Laura Rice and Genevieve Bleidner had strong performances. For the Unicorns, Marrianne Diffin, Ashley Kuligowski, Hanna Basch-Gould and Kara Brown had solid games.
Boysâ E Division
SCORPIONS 2, TEAM (#3) 0: Justin Carotti and Alistair Hayden each scored a goal to lead the Scorpions to the win. Matthew Norris, Zachary Gaberel and Kyle Shevlin also played well.
THUNDERBIRDS 3, WOLFPACK 1: Peter Griffiths, Pat Daly and Chris Salvatore all scored to lead the Thunderbirds to a win. Kevin Speiker and Robby Morlath also played well. For the Wolfpack, Danny Curtis scored the lone goal while Cody Cullens, Danny Lawrence and Brian Hughes played solid games.
TIGERSHARKS 2, FLASH 0: Blake Berreta and Anthony Florez scored one goal apiece as the Tigersharks blanked the Flash. Greg Hill and Rob Defillippe supported the offense as Evan Gregoire had a solid game in goal. For the Flash, Andrew Rothenberg and Thad Adams led the offense while Andrew Pezzilio and goaltender Matt Brede led the defense.
Girlsâ E Division
HURRICANES 1, TIMBERWOLVES 0: Gina Bonacci scored the lone goal to lead the Hurricanes past the Timberwolves. Genna Scheuerell, Michele Kukla and Lauren Hebert all played well for the âCanes while Jaclyn Schulz, Mallory Webb amd Sarah Greenfield led the T-Wolves.

DYNAMITES 1, NIGHTMARES 0: Amber Finlayson scored the lone goal to lift the Dynamites past the Nightmares. Jackie Gutbrod led the defense while Mandy Black, Lindsay Beck and Sophie Cerreta all played well. For the Nightmares, Amy Kelly and Alyssa Scalora led the defense as Alex Doniger and Laura Reid had good performances.
SHINING STARS 4, BLUE DUCKS 0: Bethany Ober scored her first goal as the Shining Stars ended their season with three straights The Ducks came out fighting, ushering the ball firmly downfield at the feet of Ann Marie Schriever, Ashley Gabor, and Alissa Gross - only to be repeatedly stymied by Star defense and halfbacks, with Olga Virgalla, Becky Huot, and Kristen DeCesare leading that charge. It took nearly an entire half of dogged Duck defense, keyed by Lisa Sapienza and punctuated with booming goal kicks from sweeper Jenna Zigmann before Star forward Elizabeth (Biz) Bowen finally got one past goaltender Lindsay Chimileski for the halfâs only score. Events turned similarly in the second half, with a younger but more numerous and substantially fresher Duck squad seeming to hold slight advantage until Bethany Ober blasted a blocked shotâs rebound into the Duck net from 12 yards out. Catlin (Cat) Williams fired a goal home while Biz Bowen struck again to cap scoring and end a hard fought season finale that sent Ducks and Stars alike to the ice cream parlor.
