Resiliency Center Now Offering Play Therapy For Ages 3-12
The Resiliency Center of Newtown (RCN) has begun providing play therapy for children, in addition to art and music therapies which are currently offered.
RCN has designated a space to be the “playroom” for play therapy, and toys and other appropriate materials have been acquired.
Play therapy is a way of being with a child that honors his developmental level and facilitates positive development through play — the “language” of children. Licensed mental health professionals therapeutically use play to help their clients, most often children ages three to 12 years, to better express themselves and resolve their problems.
Research has validated that this is a powerful method for decreasing a wide range of child problems, for overcoming traumatic experiences, for developing expressive freedom and creativity, and for building self-esteem and more mature, pro-social behaviors.
Suzanne Arnone, Med, is a licensed professional counselor with training in play therapy. She is available to meet with children ages 3-12 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:30 at RCN, 153 South Main Street.
