Joaquim âJackâ Oliva, 87 of Newtown, husband of Louise Oliva, died November 10. He was born January 30, 1924, in New Bedford, Mass., the son of Patrocinia and Jose Oliva.
A United States Navy Veteran, Mr Oliva served in World War II on the SS Philadelphia. He later worked for the US Postal Service in Danbury, as a letter carrier. He retired in 1989.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Louise; and his daughters and their spouses, Patricia and Kenneth Williams, Jacqueline and Byron Norvell, and Joanne and Daniel Coughlin, who will miss his unfailing tenderness and love. In addition he leaves behind five grandchildren; one great-grandson; his sister Aida Val and brother Eurico Oliva; and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Lynette Davis, Sheree Crawford, and Rose Anyanwu, who gave so much of their time and love. They also thank the staff and residents of Maplewood at Newtown for making it Mr Olivaâs home.
Funeral services took place November 14. Burial was in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
