The Potential Of Young Poets
The Potential Of Young Poets
To the Editor:
On Friday, November 7, I had the pleasure of attending the C.H. Booth Libraryâs Young Adult Council poetry reading. The poetry that these young people crafted and read aloud was insightful, creative, thoughtful, and at times, humorous. They deserve much credit, not only for their writing talent, but also for the courage to stand up in front of an audience and share what is so very personal. The poets were supported by their fellow council members who planned the evening, set up, provided music and refreshments, emceed, and took photographs. Â
Thank you to the library, and in particular Margaret Brown, young adult librarian; Alana Meloni, childrenâs librarian; and Liz Arneth, sponsor of the poetry workshops that preceded the reading. It was heart-warming to see the energy and enthusiasm of these kids being channeled in such a positive way. I applaud the library for offering exciting opportunities to Newtownâs teens and preteens. I hope that Newtown will continue to offer our children a variety of ways to realize their potential.
Sincerely,
Wendy Leon-Gambetta
