Taking The High Road

To the Editor:

I think Newtown owes a debt of gratitude to both Herb Rosenthal and Bill Sheluck for their recent issue-driven campaigns. While other communities took the recent elections to new lows, Newtown’s candidates and political parties stayed focused on the needs of our community and the skills they offered the electorate.

It was an interesting campaign that caused the voters to think, ask questions, and draw conclusions. Both these individuals offer Newtown a diversity of skills and a commitment to service. Herb has done an outstanding job of guiding the town through some monumental times and issues, such as Fairfield Hills, which will define Newtown for decades to come. Bill has also demonstrated leadership, such as his work on the Town Charter, and the willingness to raise and address issues on the voters’ mind.

It is my sincere hope that we can continue to engage and support both these individuals, and all the others, who work hard everyday to ensure that Newtown continues to be a wonderful place to live and work. I have nothing but respect for both Herb and Bill, all our elected officials, and the hundreds of volunteers who help keep Newtown moving into the future.

Thanks to you all,

Bruce Walczak
