Newtown Residents In Wilton Playshop's 'Camelot'
Newtown Residents In Wilton Playshopâs âCamelotâ
WILTON â Three Newtown residents are playing featured roles in Wilton Playshopâs production of the Lerner and Lowe classic Broadway musical Camelot, which opened last weekend.
Jim Lones is portraying Merlyn, the wizard and mentor to King Arthur in this tale of the King and his Round Table of Knights. Merlyn is present throughout as the love triangle between the King, Queen Guenevere and Sir Lancelot drives the plot.
Tyler Von Oy has returned to the Wilton stage as Sir Lionel, one of the knights. This is the third appearance on the Wilton stage for the Newtown High School student. Last year he played Tom Sawyer in Big River and also held one of the leading roles in the Wilton Student Summer Playshop production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Gloria Von Oy also has a key part to play in the musical behind the scenes. Mrs Von Oy has assembled a huge selection of costumes for the show. The lavish, colorful collection of velvets, brocades and shining armor create the atmosphere of a medieval royal court. Her staff of seamstresses, fitters and researchers has been busy for more than two months readying clothes for the cast of more than 22 actors.
Camelot will continue with weekend performances on November 14-16, 21-22 and 28-29. Friday and Saturday evening performances begin at 8, and the curtain for Sundayâs matinees is at 2 (please note the 8 pm start is a new curtain time for Wilton Playshop this season.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made at 762-7629. The Playshop is on Lovers Lane in Wilton, a short distance behind the congregational church.
