DUI Charge

Police said they received a report about 11:46 pm November 5 concerning an intoxicated motorist who was at the Shell gas station on Church Hill Road.

Police said they went to the gas station to investigate and then charged Margaret Nolan, 52, of Danbury with driving under the influence. After processing her arrest, police released Nolan on a $35 bond for a November 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant Served

About 11:45 am November 6, Newtown police received a call from Southbury police concerning a motorist whom Southbury police had stopped. Newtown police held an outstanding warrant for that man’s arrest.

Newtown police charged Kenneth Lee Ganger, 32, of 101 Church Hill Road with second degree failure to appear in court, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and misuse of marker plates.

After processing his arrest, police released Ganger on a $250 bond for a November 24 court appearance.

Six Charges

Police said they filed six charges against a Sandy Hook teenager following a boyfriend-girlfriend dispute, which evolved into a motor vehicle incident on Fawnwood Road early on the morning of November 5.

Police said they charged Dawnielle Conger, 17, of 61 Philo Curtis Road with first degree reckless endangerment, third degree criminal mischief, improper passing, breach of peace, reckless driving, and failure to drive to the right.

Police said Conger was driving a motor vehicle and was following her unidentified boyfriend, who did not want to talk to her. In pursuing her boyfriend, Conger drove recklessly and passed a vehicle in a no-passing zone on Route 34, police said.

Conger followed her boyfriend to Fawnwood Road, where he pulled off the road, police said. The boyfriend then attempted to turn around, but Conger pulled across the roadway to block his passage, police said. The boyfriend then pulled off the road to drive around Conger’s vehicle, but she accelerated and struck his vehicle with her vehicle, police said. There were no injuries, police said.

After processing Conger’s arrest, police released her on a promise to appear later that day in Danbury Superior Court to answer the six charges.          

Sugar Hill Break

Sometime between 8 am and 3 pm on October 29, a burglary occurred at a home on Sugar Hill Road, according to police. The burglar entered the home through a window at the rear. Police ask anyone with information on the break-in to contact them at 426-5841.

Mt Pleasant DUI

At about 8:14 pm on November 6, Laurie Lubus-Bustamante, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic on Mt Pleasant Road, turned from the street onto a lawn at 56 Mt Pleasant Road and then struck a stone wall, police said.

Lubus-Bustamante was not injured in the crash. Police gave her field sobriety tests and then charged her with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn.

After processing the arrest, police released Lubus-Bustamante on a $100 bond for a November 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Main Street Collision

At about 5:20 pm, November 6, motorist Nicole Kaza, 16, of 4 Clearview Drive, who was driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager minivan, pulled out of the driveway at Booth Library at 25 Main Street to turn left and go northward on Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Robert Macey, 33, of 40 Swamp Road was driving a 1997 Dodge pickup truck southward on Main Street, police said.

The vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Kaza a written warning for failure to grant the right of way from a driveway.

Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclist Leo Surette, Jr, 43, of Mahopac, N.Y., was driving a 1998 Royal Ryder northward on South Main Street about 11 pm November 1, when while negotiating a curve to the left, Surette lost control of the motorcycle and it slid across the parking lot at Newtown Pools at 127 South Main Street, police said.

Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Surette to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Sandy Hook Burglary

During the daytime hours on October 29, a burglary occurred at a home near the intersection of Bennetts Bridge Road and Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook, police report. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Warrant Served

Police said that they received a call from the adult probation office in Danbury on November 7, after which they traveled there and served a warrant against James Ruggiero, 35, of 64 Georges Hill Road, charging him with first degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Those charges stem from an incident last February 21 on Glover Avenue, police said. After processing the arrest, Ruggiero posted a $5,000 bond and was released for a November 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Auto Damaged

Sometime between November 3 and 5, someone scratched the side of a vehicle, which was parked at 33 Elm Drive, police report. Anyone with information on who damaged the auto is asked to contact the police department’s tip line at 270-8888.

 

Bicycle Found

A Magna-brand bicycle was found recently at 9 Queen Street, at the telephone company’s equipment building. The building is next to Newtown Middle School. The owner may claim the bicycle at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Brookwood Vandalism

At about 11:40 pm November 7, someone threw a rock at a home on Brookwood Drive, breaking a picture window and causing an estimated $250 in damage, police said. Brookwood Drive is a residential loop road off Poorhouse Road in Dodgingtown. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information about the criminal mischief to contact them.

Machinery Stolen

Police report the theft of a topsoil screening machine from a lot near 52 Lookout Drive in the Pootatuck Park neighborhood.

The missing machine is worth $130,000, representing a case of first degree larceny, police said. Police received a call on the morning of November 5 that the machine was missing. The equipment is painted green and sits on two tracks. The device is used to sift soil.

Residents in the vicinity of Tomahawk Trail and Totem Trail, who may know about the device’s theft, are asked to contact police patrol Officer Dan Cacace, who is investigating.

Tennis Items

Two tennis rackets contained in a case were found on Philo Curtis Road near Treadwell Park. Police learned of the found goods on the morning of November 9. The owner may claim the items at the police station.

Neon Off Road

Motorist Ryan M. Dove, 17, of Brookfield was driving a 1995 Dodge Neon sedan on Boggs Hill Road about 9:30 pm November 4. While negotiating a curve in the road, the Dodge went out of control and struck a utility pole located near Willow Brook Lane, police said    

Dove was not injured in the mishap. Police issued Dove a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Queen/Glover

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 1:30 pm November 5.

Motorist Jennifer Diprimio, 33, of Brookfield was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, and motorist Kimberly Wise, 19, of 19 Huntingtown Road was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Diprimio a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

South Main Collision

A three-vehicle accident occurred on northbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Park Lane, at about 4 pm November 4.

Motorist Francis Bedini, 42, of 26 Meadowbrook Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck, stopped for a stopped vehicle, police said. A 1996 Saab 900 coupe driven by Douglas DelVecchio, 29, of 16 Lincoln Road, then stopped behind the Ford, police said. A 1999 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Peter Gucciardo, 57, of 14 Washbrook Road then drove into the rear end of the Saab, pushing the Saab into the rear end of the Ford, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gucciardo an infraction ticket for following too closely.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Jason Streck, 30, of Danbury was driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 3:30 am November 5. State police stopped Streck to investigate and then charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the established lane, failure to carry an automotive insurance card, and failure to carry a vehicle registration.

After state police processed Streck’s arrest, he posted a $500 bond and was released for a November 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Toddy Hill Mischief

Sometime between 4:30 pm November 8 and 8:30 am November 9, someone damaged two mailboxes located at 77 and 79 Toddy Hill Road, police report. Those mailboxes are positioned near Toddy Hill Road’s intersection with Still Hill Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information about the vandalism to contact them.

Motor Vehicle Charges

About 7 am November 10, police were investigating a motor vehicle accident on Mt Pleasant Road and encountered motorist Lourdes Panjon, 27, of Danbury, who was not involved in that accident.

After making some motorist record checks, police charged Panjon with misuse of marker plates, driving without a driver’s license, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Police released Panjon on a promise to appear November 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

Toyota Rollover

Motorist Jay McNally, 18, of 22 Washington Avenue was driving a 1985 Toyota Cressida, carrying three teenage passengers, northward on Mile Hill Road South at about 2:10 am November 12, when the vehicle did not negotiate a curve in the road near Nunnawauk Road, police report.

The Toyota went off the road, hit a stone wall, and then rolled over, police said. There were no injuries, police said. McNally made an improper turn, according to police.

Castle Hill Crash

Motorist Colin Cascia, 19, of 7 Juniper Road was driving a 1993 Subaru Impreza, carrying two teenage passengers, eastward on Castle Hill Road at about 3 pm November 11, when the auto failed to stay to the right on a curve in the road near King Street, police said.

The Subaru struck some brush on the westbound road shoulder, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cascia a written warning for failure to keep to the right on a curve and for failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.

Poverty Hollow

Motorist Robert G. O’Neil, 23, of 5 Abbotts Hill Road was driving a 1994 Audi 100-S sedan northward on Poverty Hollow Road about 8:50 pm November 10, when the vehicle collided with a deer, police said. O’Neil was not injured, police said.

Honda Vs Plymouth

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Turkey Hill Road and Nearbrook Drive about 4 pm November 10.

Motorist Tamara Restuccia, 33, of 43 Turkey Hill Road, who was driving a Honda Civic sedan eastward on Turkey Hill Road, was traveling behind motorist Elliott Torres, 51, of 59 Nearbrook Drive, who was driving a Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan, police said.

The Plymouth then turned left onto Nearbrook Drive and the Honda went into a skid, colliding with the Plymouth, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Restuccia an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
