Newtown Middle School held its annual âHoops for Heartsâ charity basketball game recently, raising $440, including ticket sales, to donate to the American Heart Association.
âWeâve been holding the game for a few years now,â said Principal Diane Sherlock. âItâs a wonderful cause.â
Each year, students and faculty face off for a little friendly competition. âEveryone works really hard,â said eighth grader Jaclyn Petrasanta, one of the student teamâs two peer-aged coaches. âItâs great school spirit!â she added.
Newtown Middle School physical education teachers Kenneth Kantor and Joseph LaRosa organized the game.
Members of the SPOKES Club, a school service organization centered on raising money for Newtown Middle School, held a post-Halloween candy sale. Game admission was $2.
After a long, sweaty two-hour challenge, the faculty proved victorious over the student team, winning 50 to 45.
