A Missing Dinner

To the Editor:

My husband and I received a very generous gift certificate to Cheffields dated July 31, 2003, that says “This certificate is valid one year from date of issue.” Then several weeks later they close before we were able to use it! This is no way to do business especially in a small town.

The new restaurant Compass looks like a very good restaurant and is willing to honor 20 percent of the gift certificate. But what about the other 80 percent, or in our case $80? How many more people are there in Newtown who are in the same situation? Do we have any recourse? I hope the former Cheffields owners do not plan to open another restaurant in this area because I will not be giving them my business.
