Poster Of Student Artwork Proposed

The Newtown Board of Education was presented with a poster idea by Curtis Packaging that joins artwork from Newtown students of all levels that had been done in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.
Curtis Packing CEO Don Droppo and Karen Landgrebe, vice president of packaging department, showed the board the poster of the American flag and the Statute of Liberty that the company produced and placed around town for the community soon after September 11.
âWe were just amazed at how popular they were and how fast they went,â Mr Droppo said. âIt would be nice to be able to do something closer to home.â
The proposal would allow already created artwork that shows a patriotic theme from students in elementary, middle, and high school. Once the company receives the artwork, which will be selected by art teachers, a poster will be created. Curtis Packaging will produce 15,000 posters of which 7,500 will be given to the school district to distribute to students and faculty, while the other 7,500 will be distributed to the community, the governor, and the President as well as clients of Curtis Packaging. The posters would not be for sale.
âAn awful lot of artwork has been done by the children in this country,â Ms Landgrebe said.
The Board of Education approved the proposal unanimously. Curtis Packaging hopes to have the poster completed before the holidays.
âThis is a historical postscript,â Superintendent of Schools John R. Reed said. âI think it takes a period of our history and puts it in a snapshot.â
