‘Spiritus’ Has Opened Holiday Season At Silvermine

NEW CANAAN — “Spiritus,” the Silvermine Guild Arts Center’s annual holiday show and sale, is on view and will continue through December 23 at Silvermine Galleries.

The holiday show will feature works by the artist members of the guild including paintings, prints, sculpture, mixed media, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art and decorative home accessories in clay, metal, glass and wood.

Each artist has been invited to submit two works, one of which is priced especially for holiday giving. For example, an artist whose paintings normally sell for four figures may submit a smaller painting priced at $200 or less.

The concept is to make it easy to give a gift of art and to provide art lovers with an opportunity to begin collecting the work of guild artists at very attractive prices, according to Helen During, Silvermine’s gallery director. Examples of work by the Guild’s Portrait Artist will also be available and portrait commissions can be arranged.

Gift certificates are another option, for either a gallery purchase or for a course or workshop at Silvermine School of Art. All sales help support contemporary artists and Silvermine Guild Arts Center.

Silvermine Galleries is also concurrently presenting an exhibit of Old Master, modern and contemporary prints, called “Rembrandt to Robert Ryman,” on loan from Pace Gallery and curated by Helen Klisser During. Limited editions of the prints in the exhibit are available for sale.

Silvermine Galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm, and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. For further information call 203/966-5617. Silvermine Guild and its galleries are at 1037 Silvermine Road.
