Images Of Israel, A Slide Show

NEW MILFORD — The Rena Cohen Berner memorial Fund for Jewish Culture and Vital Issues, in conjunction with New Milford United Methodist Church, will present the nationally published local photographer Rich Pomerantz showing a photographic slide presentation of his photographs from Israel on Wednesday, November 29, at 7 pm. The program will be at New Milford United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Road (Route 7) in New Milford.

Mr Pomerantz, who lived in Israel 25 years ago, has traveled to the region several times, most recently this past June. He has created a compelling visual record of this magnificent and troubled land and its people during historic times.

From Jerusalem to Tel Aviv to the Red Sea, from the Sea of Galilee to Mount Sinai, Mr Pomerantz has captured the majestic scenery and historic sites and the people, from the city dwellers, kibbutz farmers, on to Arab merchants, to Christian pilgrims, Jewish soldiers and Bedouin herders.

Christians, Moslems, and Jew alike, these people are depicted in their daily lives, trying to live within the narrow confines of the holy land with all of its historical baggage and the tough present day realities, steeped in religion and geopolitics. All are captured by his lens in beautiful and thoughtful images.

Mr Pomerantz’s images have appeared in many periodicals, including Travel Holiday, Coastal Living, Garden Design, the Industry Standard, Horticulture and Outdoor Photographer. His pictures have also been used to illustrate Sierra Club calendars and the cover of Frommers Guide to Virginia.

The slide show is free and open to the public. For more information, call Temple Sholom at 860/354-0273 or Rich Pomerantz at 860/355-3356.
