Edward S. Smith

Edward S. Smith, 86, a lifelong resident of Vista, N.Y., died November 9 at Norwalk Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife, Stella (Miller) Smith, in 1995.

He was the father of Elaine Renjilian of Newtown.

Mr Smith was born in Vista on September 13, 1914, a son of the late Thomas and Sarah (Van Name) Smith. He was a retired estate manager for private estates in New Canaan.

Mr Smith was very devoted to his family and especially enjoyed the outdoors, and in particular the way he maintained his lawn and gardens. In his youth, he was considered a tremendous baseball player and in later years enjoyed bowling and watching his grandchildren participate in sports. He was also active in the community, having been a former member of the Katonah-Lewisboro Board of Education and a charter member of the Vista Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his daughter, survivors include his son, David E. Smith of Lincolndale, N.Y.; two brothers, Ralph L. Smith of New Canaan and T. Irving Smith of Norwalk; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr Smith was predeceased by a brother, Clifford Smith.

Services were held on November 14 in St Paul Episcopal Church, Route 123, Vista, N.Y. The Rev Lynn Harrington, rector, officiated. The interment was private.
