William James (‘Jim’) Lee
William James Lee, known as Jim to many, passed away peacefully at his home on November 1, 2024.
He was born on August 29, 1934, in Hartford, to Jesse Richard Lee and Lillian Hall Lee. He was the youngest of ten children and grew up on their farm in Coventry. He served in the Navy from 1953-1957.
He married the love of his life, Faye “Midge” Crickmore Lee, in 1958. She was quick to say she was lucky and got the better end of the deal. The truth is that they balanced each other wonderfully, and their love and affection were evident throughout their many years together. They threw the best parties, were great dancers, and engaged in many community and civic activities. He worked diligently in his position at Hartford Hospital for over 35 years and made a joyful and secure life for his family. He was especially proud of his many years as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Hebron. This is where they raised three daughters and contributed to the upbringing of many more nieces, nephews, and neighbors. His generosity knew no bounds, and people often said he would give you the shirt off his back. His droll sense of humor and the twinkle in his blue eyes were sure to engage, even though he was generally reserved.
Upon retiring Jim and Midge moved to New Hampshire and then to Florida — enjoying the fruits of their labor with travel, cruises and casinos; spending time with their daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughter; and making many friends along the way. They later returned to Connecticut in order to be closer to family.
Jim was an avid Yankees fan and loved to talk about baseball. He always had a project he was working on, something that he needed to build or fix. As a younger man, he would tend to his pool and yard. Later, he built dollhouses and snowmen with his granddaughters.
He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings: Gordon Lee, Robert N. Lee, Frederick A. Lee, Jesse R. Lee, Doris Lee, Faith Withey, Mary Davis, Fern Neumann, and Virginia Charette.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Midge; their three daughters, Fern Lee and wife Linda, Wendy Frary, and Gale Hansen and husband George; two special nieces, Dorothy Kuhlman and Debbie Newton; their two granddaughters, Marissa Spak and husband Kevin, and Sydney Hansen; and great-granddaughter, Valia.
His family feels so fortunate to have been able to celebrate his 90th birthday with him this past year. We’re grateful for all of the time we had with him and countless wonderful memories. Though we try to take solace in knowing that he was ready, we will miss him tremendously.
