Suspected Vandals Caught At Cochran Hall
Newtown Police report that multiple individuals were arrested in connection with vandalism at Cochran Hall on the Fairfield Hills campus on October 26. At approximately 10:20 pm, the Newtown Police Department was notified that there were multiple individuals on the roof of Cochran Hall. The caller advised the department that damage was being done to the building and air conditioning units were being thrown from the roof.
Officers arrived and located three people inside the building, two adults and a juvenile. New damage had been done to the building and an air conditioning unit was hanging off the roof.
Police arrested Anthony Petrucci, 18, of Newtown, and charged him with simple trespass. Also arrested was Ryan Gillinger, 18, of Sandy Hook, who was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, third-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal trespass.
The juvenile was not identified.
Wallet Found
Newtown Police report that on October 27, a citizen turned in a grey wallet containing only money that was located at the Mitchell Sunoco Gas Station, 26 Hawleyville Road. Anyone with information, or the owner, can contact Sgt Wisentaner at 203-426-5841.
Hit Road Sign, Guardrail
Newtown Police report Joseph Fiore, 30, of Brookfield, operating a 2017 Ford Escape, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 5 am October 28. While negotiating a left hand curve, Fiore’s vehicle ran off the roadway to the right and struck a road sign and the end of a guardrail.
Fiore was transported to Danbury Hospital with a suspected minor injury. His vehicle was towed.
Fiore was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Compass Hits Nitro
Newtown Police report Jaclynn Alves, 39, of New Milford, operating a 2020 Jeep Compass, was traveling south on South Main Street at 8 am October 30. She was traveling behind a 2007 Dodge Nitro operated by Debora Rojo Mora, 53, of Newtown. Rojo Mora slowed for a flashing traffic light control signal at the entrance of Sand Hill Plaza, and Alves did not stop in time, rear-ending Rojo Mora’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Alves was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Failure To Secure Child
Newtown Police report Sheldon Gordon, 39, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 8:48 am October 30. Gordon’s vehicle skidded off the right side of the road and struck a guard rail.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Gordon was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn and an infraction for failure to secure a child in a car or booster seat.
Rear-Ended On South Main
Newtown Police report Vivian Kerker, 59, of Bethel, operating a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 6:42 am October 31. She was traveling behind a 2022 Nissan Maxima operated by Conrad White, 36, of Waterbury. White stopped due to traffic and Kerker’s vehicle struck his from behind.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.
Impreza Strikes Pilot
Newtown Police report Charles Dunn, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Subaru Impreza, was traveling north on Berkshire Road at 7:50 am November 1. He was traveling behind a 2015 Honda Pilot operated by Tara Johnson, 45, of Newtown. Johnson stopped for traffic ahead at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way, and Dunn did not stop in time, rear-ending Johnson’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Dunn was given a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Mirrors Collided
Newtown Police report James Holt, 39, of Redding, operating a 2018 Ford F350, was turning left from Washington Avenue onto Church Hill Road at 11:10 am November 1. Vicente Alvarez-Ajpacaja, 35, of Danbury, operating a 2004 GMC Envoy, was parked along the westbound shoulder of Church Hill Road. The passenger side mirror of Holt’s vehicle made contact with the driver side mirror of Alvarez-Ajpacaja’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Holt was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane.
Three Vehicles Damaged During Turn
Newtown Police report Michael Quesenberry, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Subaru Forester, was traveling on Riverside Road at 7:57 am November 2. Emily Liddy, 36, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Toyota Sienna, was traveling eastbound on Riverside Road approaching Philo Curtis Road. Rory Kaplan, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2020 Subaru Outback, was stopped on Philo Curtis Road at the intersection of Riverside Road. Quesenberry started turning left from Riverside Road onto Philo Curtis Road and crossed in front of Liddy. The front of Liddy’s vehicle collided with the right side of Quesenberry’s vehicle. The front left corner of Quesenberry’s vehicle then struck the front left corner of Kaplan’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Liddy’s and Kaplan’s vehicles were towed.
Quesenberry was issued an infraction for failure to yield right of way while turning left.
Collided With Tree
Newtown Police report Carlos Contreras Loor, 21, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Mazda CX-3, was traveling northbound on High Rock Road at 8:10 am November 2. He traveled off the northbound shoulder of the road and struck a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Loor was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Parking Lot Fender Bender
Newtown Police report Jackson DeFelice, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, was attempting to park in a parking spot at 12 Berkshire Road. An unoccupied 2017 Jeep Compass owned by Douglas Verdi was parked in an adjacent spot. The right front corner of DeFelice’s car made contact with the right front corner of Verdi’s.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Suspect Sought In Farmstand Theft
Newtown Police received a report of a theft from a roadside farm stand at 101 Toddy Hill Road at 10:07 am November 7. The police department is currently investigating the incident and seeking local help in identifying a suspect.
