Police Quell Threatening Situation In Botsford
Following a report of a man threatening to "shoot anybody" who went to his Botsford home on the night of November 8, police responded to the Dusty LaneÃÂ residence in number, and following a brief standoff, took the man into custody without injury, police said.
About 9:18 pm on November 8, police received a call from the man's wife explaining that she had left the house with her two daughters because of a domestic dispute that had occurred there, police said.
Considering the man's threat of violence, Newtown police called for the Danbury Regional Emergency Services Unit to respond to the Dusty LaneÃÂ home. That unit, which is a SWAT team, is comprises Newtown, Brookfield, and Danbury police.
The special unit then created a perimeter around the home and shortly thereafter Samir Raslan, 35, surrendered to police.
Police said they removed three legal weapons from the home - two handguns and a rifle. Police charged Raslan with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, second-degree unlawful restraint, and risk of injury to a child. Police then held Raslan on $10,000 bail for arraignment on the charges on November 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Raslan did not plead to the charges. He was released without bail for a December 7 court appearance.
Police Sergeant Aaron Bahamonde said, "Based on the original complaint, precautionary measures were taken to protect the immediate area of the residence."
The emergency services unit was enlisted as the best way to defuse the situation, he said.
"We work to best determine when these situations require the services of this specialized unit," he said. Such special measures are used for the sake of public safety, he added
