Gun In Vehicle
State police report that while traveling in heavy traffic near an accident scene on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, at about 8:45 am on November 7, a trucker spotted a man in a vehicle who was holding and loading a handgun while driving.
Also, there was an 8-year-old girl as a front-seat passenger in that vehicle, state police said.
Based on the trucker’s description of the incident, state police located the vehicle in question and stopped it to question the driver.
The girl in the vehicle was not injured, according to state police.
State police said they charged motorist Daniel Ortiz, 28, of Waterbury with reckless endangerment, breach of peace, and risk of injury to a minor.
Ortiz was released on $2,500 bail for a November 24 court appearance.
I-84 DUI
State police said they stopped motorist Jessica Kovatch, 31, of Southbury on eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 11 about 11:47 pm on November 5 for failure to remain within a travel lane while driving.
State police said they investigated and then charged Kovatch with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.
Kovatch was released on $500 nonsurety bail for a November 25 court appearance, according to state police.
Two Trucks
State police report a collision involving two heavy trucks on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10, about 6:50 pm on November 4.
In that incident, trucker Aron Brown, 24, of Strasburg, Vt., who was driving a 2000 Volvo tractor-trailer truck, had a mechanical equipment failure and lost his steering control, resulting in the Volvo striking some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.
The Volvo then reentered the roadway and struck the entire right side of a 2008 Freightliner Model V heavy truck driven by Douglas Ebling, 57, of Ridgely, Md., state police said.
There were no injuries. State police took no enforcement.
DUI Warrant
Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for him, Justin Miller, 25, of 29 Marlin Road turned himself in at the police station on November 10 and was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.
The charges stem from an early morning May 17 incident in which Miller was driving a commercial 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward near 10 Main Street, when the truck crossed into the northbound lane and struck a utility pole head-on along the northbound road shoulder.
Miler was transported for hospital treatment after that collision, police have said. The accident caused a utility disruption in the area.
Police report that after processing the charges against Miller on November 10, they released him on $250 bail for a November 25 court appearance.
Residential Burglary
Sometime between 12:30 and 3:30 pm on November 6, someone forced open a rear door at a home on Brookwood Drive, police said.
The house is located on the western leg of Brookwood Drive, a loop road that extends from Poorhouse Road in Dodgingtown, near the Bethel town line.
Police said that no items were reported missing from the residence. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.
Poverty Hollow Accident
At about 5:30 pm on November 5, motorist Michelle Whitlock, 47, of 103 Poverty Hollow Road was driving a 2011 Buick Enclave SUV southward near that location, when the vehicle struck a tree branch that was hanging over the roadway, police said. The address is near Poverty Hollow Road’s intersection with Farm Meadow Road and Hopewell Road.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Intersection Crash
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road and Flat Swamp Road about 12:10 pm on November 3.
An unidentified man was driving a red Hyundai sedan southward on Flat Swamp Road, as a 73-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus southward on Poverty Hollow Road, police said.
On reaching the intersection, the Hyundai turned left to travel northward on Poverty Hollow Road, but in doing so, the Hyundai struck the Ford. The Hyundai driver did not stop and drove away from the accident scene, police said.
The woman driving the Ford was not injured. The Hyundai would have collision damage in its right frontal area. Police ask anyone who knows who was driving the Hyundai to contact investigating Officer Adam Greco at the police station.
Statue Stolen
Sometime between noon on October 20, and 1 am on November 2, someone stole a “lawn jockey” statue from the front yard at a home on Main Street at its intersection with Schoolhouse Hill Road.
The statue is about three feet tall. The extended arm of the jockey has a concrete patch on its wrist. The jockey is wearing a green jacket and a green cap.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the statue’s whereabouts to contact them at the police station.
Church Hill Collision
About 10 am on November 7, motorist Rahul Anand, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester station wagon eastward near 87 Church Hill Road, stopped and was waiting for traffic when the Subaru was struck from behind by motorist Jeffery Nevner, 49, of Bethel, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Prius, police report.
There were no injuries. Nevner received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.
SUV Vs Pickup
Police report that at about 1 pm on November 8, northbound motorist Robert Foran, 72, of Woodbridge, who was driving a 1994 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto Bryan Lane, when the Ford was struck from behind by motorist David Delia, 30, of 27 Buttonshop Road, who was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.
There were no injuries. Delia received a written warning for following too closely, police said.
Evading
At about 9:30 am on November 8, a 70-year-old Monroe woman, who was driving a 2004 BMW Z-4 coupe in the parking lot at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, was struck by an unidentified motorist driving blue Saturn Vue SUV who then drove away, police said.
The BMW driver was not injured. Police are investigating and ask anyone who knows the identity of the Saturn’s driver to contact investigating Officer Adam James.
Chevy Vs Saab
Motorist Julie Giacobbe-Carroll, 57, of Easton, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala sedan westward on Church Hill Road near The Boulevard at about 9 pm on November 7, crossed over into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with eastbound motorist Timothy Hagan, 48, of New Milford, who was driving a 2004 Saab 9-3 sedan, police said.
Giacobbe-Carroll was transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.
Oakview/Wasserman
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Oakview Road and Wasserman Way about 8:12 am on October 27.
Motorist Sharon Ivan, 54, of 50 Oakview Road, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Highlander SUV, stopped and was waiting on southbound Oakview Road at its intersection with Wasserman Way, when the Toyota was struck from behind by motorist Dana Totir, 45, of 198 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, police said.
There were no injuries. Totir received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
Audi Vs Honda
While in a parking lot at 34 Church Hill Road about 12:25 pm on October 31, motorist Laura Ely, 64, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2005 Audi A-6 sedan, backed out of parking space and struck a stopped 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Irena Newquist, 48, of Glastonbury, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Motorcycle Incident
Police report that at about 2:50 pm on November 10, a motorcyclist was riding back and forth on Charter Ridge Drive on a lightweight blue and white vehicle known as a dirt bike.
At one point, the unidentified motorcyclist struck a vehicle and then drove away from the scene, police said. There were no injuries. Police ask anyone who knows the motorcyclist’s identity to contact police Officer Matthew Wood, who is investigating.
SUV Struck
At about 7:45 pm on November 7, an unknown person driving an unidentified vehicle backed out of a handicapped parking space in the parking lot at the rear of 1 Glen Road and struck a parked unoccupied 2007 Ford Explorer SUV, police said.
The unknown driver of the unidentified vehicle then spoke to the driver of the Ford, after which the unknown driver drove away, police said.
Police were later called to investigate the incident and ask anyone who knows the identity of the unknown driver to contact Officer Matt Wood.
Three Vehicles
A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on eastbound Church Hill Road near its intersection with Dayton Street about 5 pm on November 5.
In that incident, motorist Kathy Klesitz, 58, of 14 Turkey Roost Road, who was driving a 2008 Ford Escape SUV, struck the rear end of a 2011 Nissan Versa auto driven by Raquel Perez, 29, of Shelton, pushing the Nissan into the rear end of a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by Thomas Taylor, 21, of Watertown, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Klesitz for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Intersection Accident
Police report that two motorists were involved in an accident about 6:36 pm on November 6 at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road.
The collision involved motorist Kaitlyn Gentile, 26, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan, and motorist Gavin Bowden, 25, of 68 Georges Hill Road, who was driving a 1997 Subaru Legacy station wagon, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement due to a lack of evidence.
Marijuana Charge
Police report they responded to 57 Dodgingtown Road, Apt #3, about noon on November 7 after being called to assist the Danbury Superior Court adult probation department staff which had conducted a “home visit” there.
Police said that during their visit, the probation officers had found more than four ounces of marijuana in the apartment.
Police said they charged William T. Oboy III, 27, of that address, with possession of more than four ounces of marijuana.
After processing the case, police released Oboy on $2,000 nonsurety bail for arraignment on the charge in court on November 20.
Diamond Found
Police report that on the afternoon of November 12, a person turned over to them for safekeeping a cut diamond that had been found near Yankee Wine & Spirits in Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
