Stolen Bike

Anyone with information leading to the location of a stolen boy’s mountain bike is asked to contact the police at 203-426-5841. The blue bike with the words “Hillraiser” printed on the frame was taken from 22 The Boulevard sometime on October 24.

 

Deer vs Toyota

On October 30 at about 6:43 pm Carol Marie Clarke, 49, was operating a 2004 Toyota station wagon southbound on Currituck Road when, according to police, she saw a deer near the roadway and slowed. As the vehicle approached the animal, she stated it ran in front of the car and was struck, causing minor damage to the front left side. No injuries were reported and no action was taken.

Left The Scene

On October 31, police reported that an unidentified vehicle that was struck from behind, left the scene of the incident. According to the report, Anthony L. Salice, 52, of Bristol told police he was traveling westbound on Dodgingtown Road at about 4:47 pm in a 1999 Nissan Maxima, when a vehicle in front of him slowed abruptly for traffic. The Nissan then made contact with the back of the other vehicle. Police said that second vehicle left the scene, and that there was no evident damage to the front end of the Nissan. Police issued a warning to Mr Salice for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Altercation Investigation

At about 10:53 am on November 1, police responded to the area of Sugar Street after a report that a knife was shown during an altercation, and that the accused might be traveling with a young child in his black Nissan sedan. Officers saw and stopped the car at the intersection of South Main Street, located the individual in question, Angelo DiCicco, 23, of Newington, and arrested him for breach of peace, risk of injury to children, and criminal violation of a protective order. According to the report, DiCicco was processed and released on a $10,000 surety bond and issued a court appearance date of November 2.

Deer Strike

A 2005 Ford Escape had to be towed from the scene of a collision with a deer in the area of 100 Berkshire Road on November 4. Police reported that at about 6:25 pm, Richard Snee, 67, of Farmington was traveling eastbound when a deer crossed in front of his vehicle, causing substantial front end damage. No injuries were reported and no action was taken.

Deer Into Door

Police reported that at 7:21 am on November 4, Vikki Carlson, 44, of Copper Creek Circle, went to police headquarters to report her 2006 Honda CRV was struck by a deer on the front driver’s side and door. Ms Carlson said the incident occurred earlier as she was driving near the intersection of Hanover and Tamarack Roads. The operator reported no injuries.

Shoplifting Accusation

At about 6:22 pm on November 5, police reported arresting Joseph Bromley, 25, of Oakville on larceny charges after a complaint that he taking merchandise from the Big Y store on Queen Street. The individual was processed and released on a $100 bond pending a November 19 court date.

Suspended License

An officer on routine patrol at 1:45 pm November 6 noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in the area of Lorraine Drive. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the driver, Christian Gorley, 26, of New Haven was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. He was taken into custody, processed and released on a promise to appear in Danbury court on November 20.

Wrong Turn

On November 6 at about 5:25 pm, police responded to a report of a collision at 66 Church Hill Road. Upon investigating, they determined that Robert Fairchild, 44, of Brookfield was operating a 2001 Jeep Eagle eastbound when he attempted to turn, traveling through a lane of stopped traffic. The Jeep then collided with a 2008 Honda Civic being operated westbound in an adjacent turn lane by James P. Gillies III of Trumbull. The Honda was towed from the scene and Fairchild was cited for failure to grant the right of way. No injuries were reported.

Under Suspension

At about 2:37 am on November 6, a Newtown officer noticed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road suddenly pulled over and onto the shoulder near Walnut Tree Hill Road. After stopping to investigate police determined the driver, Robert Hutchinson, 28, of Bethel was operating with a suspended license. After his arrest and processing, the individual was released on a $100 bond and a November 20 court date.

Unconscious Operator

Police responded to a report of an unconscious party in a vehicle near the intersection of Berkshire and Toddy Hill Roads at about 4:54 am on November 7. Upon arrival, police discovered a Subaru Legacy sedan running, and Peter LaMonte, 51, of Toddy Hill Road asleep behind the wheel. After an interview, officers determined LaMonte was operating under the influence of alcohol and arrested him on the charge. After processing, he was released on a $100 bond pending a November 24 court appearance.

Evading Responsibility

Newtown Police are seeking the operator of a green pickup truck, which was struck from behind by a Toyota Corolla at approximately 8:30 am on November 9 in the area of 265 Berkshire Road. Police say the truck had slowed behind a school bus when it was hit, but the driver — who police are describing as the victim — left the scene. The driver, or anyone else with information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Larissa Nosal at 203-426-5841.

Passenger Injured

Newtown Police report that a passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-car crash on Church Hill Road was slightly injured and required treatment from ambulance volunteers. The incident, which occurred at 4:40 pm on November 5, involved Zachary Fabian-Craig, 18, of Southbury who police say was operating a 1995 Nissan Altima eastbound on Church Hill Road when he reportedly slowed behind a pickup truck in front of him before merging to the right to turn onto Interstate 84. As he passed the pickup, police say he failed to stop in time for a 2001 Honda Civic that was turning and traveling across the second lane, having been waved on by the driver of the pickup. The Honda, with two passengers on board, was being operated by Jennifer Graham, 17, of Old Farm Road. Both vehicles had slight damage, but one of the passengers complained of left arm pain, prompting officers to call for emergency medical observation. According to the report, the injured party was not transferred to the hospital, and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Police Seeking Driver

Newtown Police are seeking information or witnesses to a 4:57 pm crash that occurred November 8 at 235 South Main Street. According to the report, an older model blue pickup truck with mounted tool boxes and rusted racks attached to its bed exited a parking lot to travel southbound on South Main Street. This caused Daniel McIlrath, 23, of Sugar Loaf Road who was operating a 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage southbound to take evasive action. Police say the pickup hit the sedan and continued into the parking lot at 232 South Main and disappeared behind a building there. Mr McIlrath said he was unable to locate the truck, and notified police. No action was taken against the driver who remained on scene, but police are looking to question the driver of the truck. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Steven Siecienki at 203-426-5841.

Driver At Fault

Despite a driver’s claim that he hit guardrails attempting to avoid a deer, State Police charged Hector Torres, 41, of Waterbury with failure to drive in an established lane November 11 after investigating a single vehicle crash at about 4:14 am on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 a half-mile east of Exit 11. According to the report, the operator said he was heading eastbound in the left lane when he swerved to avoid a deer and struck about 40 feet of metal wire rope guardrail damaging his 2007 Honda Civic to the extent where it had to be towed from the scene. The investigating trooper stated that he found no evidence to indicate a deer was struck, and issued the infraction. There were no injuries reported.

Highway Rollover

State Police responded to a report of a rollover collision just east of Exit 11 on Interstate 84 at 1:59 am on November 8 that resulted in injuries to the driver to the extent that he required transport to Danbury Hospital. According to the report, Cesar Ruiz-Iorenzo, 30, of Bristol was operating eastbound when his 1998 Honda Civic left the roadway, continued up an embankment, grazed the top of a guardrail and rolled onto its roof. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.

Multiple Charges

Police ended up holding a Danbury woman for arraignment after she failed to make a $5,000 bond November 10. The arrest of Dawn Radka, 50, of Carlye Road occurred after police responded to a report of a car into a tree at the intersection of The Old Road and Currituck Road about 9:30 Tuesday evening. After a brief investigation, Ms Radka was charged with operating under the influence, making a restricted turn, operating under suspension, failure to surrender a suspended license, operating an unregistered vehicle, and operating with insufficient insurance. She was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges November 12.
