Sarah Speaks!
Sarah Speaks!
To the Editor:
Both of our twin girls lost their words to autism three years ago. Our lives have been filled with all types of therapies ever since: occupational, ABA, water, and speech to name a few. Not to mention the puzzles, pecs cards, and the endless meltdowns borne from the frustration of not being able to communicate simple needs. Itâs been a long tough education for the entire family these past three years.
Over the last week our Sarah has had something of a breakthrough. Sheâs begun to speak, not just mimic, but to communicate! Sarah, we are so proud of you. You have worked so hard at school and at home, harder than any 4½-year-old should ever have to.
Her success has been in no small part due to the tireless team of educators at the Newtown schools. Lauren Mccusker, Jodi Mazaleski, Eileen Cullen, Sarah Woods, Theresa Morganti, Meghan Glynn, Chris Gore, Jan Calabro, Becky Evans and our very special sitter, Christina Koloniaris. The work you do is truly noble and the results have changed our lives. Thank you.
Katie youâre next, we know you have it in you.
