Living With Backyard Birds

BROOKFIELD — Living in Connecticut is amazing, especially with all of the wildlife in local backyards. Unfortunately, when people and animals coexist, problems sometimes arise for both.

Ambassadors from Wildlife in Crisis will be at Wild Birds Unlimited Saturday, November 14, at 1 pm. They will discuss their work rehabilitating local wildlife and will bring ambassador animals as living examples of their work. A volunteer from Wildlife in Crisis will be available to answer questions and talk about their mission.

Wildlife in Crisis is Fairfield County’s wildlife care center. WIC is a volunteer-run, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to wildlife preservation and land conservation. For the past 20 years, WIC volunteers have answered more than 15,000 phone calls annually regarding injured and orphaned wildlife and care for more than 5,000 debilitated animals per year.

WIC accepts all species of native wildlife for rehabilitation. The Wildlife in Crisis care center, land trust, and environmental education programs share the goal of protecting wildlife while improving the quality of life in the local community. WIC relies entirely on individual donations to run its programs.

Wild Birds Unlimited is at 317 Federal Road, Brookfield; telephone 203-775-4888. The program is free, although donations to Wildlife in Crisis are suggested.
