A Special Day
A Special Day
To the Editor:
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the Board of Education and the school Calendar Committee, in their recent decision to forgo Veteransâ Day as a holiday for the Newtown school system.
While I understand and agree with some of the committeeâs thinking; i.e., dropping some holidays to create more continuity in the school year, Veteransâ Day is not a holiday I would have given up. Yes, I agree that many children will spend the day at the Danbury Mall or playing video games, but I also believe that when the children grow up they start to fully understand why they had been given the day off, and how special the day is.
Sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, husbands and wives have died for our freedom and our country, and there is no reason more important than that, as to why our students should have the day off.
