Newtown High School diver Kari Djonne, coming off her first-place performance in the South-West Conference championship, was runner-up in the Class LL finals at Bulkeley High in Hartford, on November 11. Djonne scored 440.95. Westhill-Stamford’s Rachel Burtson was first with a score of 533.40.

Newtown’s Gillian Eckwall was a fifth with a 400.90, Emma Wolfman placed 18th with a 320.20, and Sarah MacMullan came in 27th with a 192.75.

The state championship swimming qualifying meet is set for Saturday, November 14, at East Hartford High School, beginning at 11:30 am. The swim finals will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at Southern Connecticut State University, in New Haven, beginning at 6 pm.
