To the Editor:

I am writing to thank the voters of District 2 for their support in the election last week. I am grateful you have voted to have me represent you as one of the four people on the Legislative Council for your district. We have a particularly challenging two years ahead of us. Rising taxes, and decreasing revenue from the state and other sources are the biggest issues. How we deal with them will help shape the future of Newtown. Supporting our children and families as they continue to recover from last years shooting at Sandy Hook School must remain in the front of our minds. Finding a way to support our largest growing demographic, our seniors, must be addressed.

Newtown is a great place to live, with townspeople who support one another everyday. I am proud to be a member of this community and hope I can meet your expectations as your representative.

One voter commented that your choices on who you want to represent you isn't clear because of how few people chose to vote. If you didn't vote, I'm interested in your thoughts on why. Did you stay home because you are happy with the status quo? Did you stay home because you don't have the information you need to make an informed choice? Our are you frustrated? Please let me know by emailing me at mjacob4404@charter.net.

Your involvement is important, please consider ways you can participate going forward.

Thank you again,

Mary Ann Jacob
