John C. Donaher, Jr, of Fairfield, husband of Susan Sherman Donaher, died November 9. He was born July 18, 1932, in New Kensington, Penn.
In addition to his wife, Mr Donaher is survived by five children, including Matthew of Newtown; 12 grandchildren; four siblings; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and John Donaher, and two brothers.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1954 with a BS in business, and subsequently received a masterâs degree in hospital administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. A veteran of the US Army, he served at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Paris, France, from 1955 to 1957.
He moved to Fairfield in 1978 from Detroit, where he served as president of the Detroit Medical Center, to assume the presidency of Doctors Hospital in New York City. In 1990, he was appointed director of hospitals for His Highness the Aga Kahn, in Chantilly, France. He returned to Fairfield upon his retirement. Mr Donaher was an active member of St Lukeâs Catholic Church, Westport.
Friends may greet the family Friday, November 12, from 5 to 7 pm, in the Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 13, at 11 am, at Saint Luke Church, Westport. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bridgeport Hospital Foundation, 267 Grant Street, Bridgeport CT 06610. Contributions will support Ahlbins Center Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit.
