U8

Mustangs 4, The Lightning Strikes 0: On a very cold morning that saw frost on the field, Karsten Pirone had a hat trick and Aniko Walsh added a goal for the Mustangs. Kaitlyn King and Olivia Oltran added assists. Angela Carriero, Holly Ankers, and Caroline Tousignant were outstanding in goal. while Emily Tressler and Mopsey Seaver led the midfield play. For The Lightning Strikes, Becca Filiato and Megan Riccardi led strong rushes on offense but could not find the net, while Mary Sortino, Riley Burns, and Taegan Smith played a steady defense and Olivia Cornett was solid in goal.

Wildcats 1, Lightning 0: For the second time in as many weeks, the Wildcats and Lightning played a well balanced and exciting match. Kaley Meisenheimer scored the lone goal for the Wildcats, which was set up with a perfect pass from Colleen Phaneuf. Rylee Harrell and Isabella Butler demonstrated strong ball control while playing a solid all-around game. Erin Phaneuf and Ruby Rose Rankin anchored a strong Wildcats defense. The Lightning, led by team captain Sophia Romano, played an overall balanced game. Hannah Sepp, Nicole Fisher, and Cameron Powers all played excellent offense, moving the ball well and exhibiting good passing skills. The defensive unit was also strong, anchored by the stellar efforts of Ciera Jaehn, Ellie Moxham, and Carlie Smith.

U10

Twisters 1, American Eagles 0: In a tight back-and-forth game, the Twisters skimmed the American Eagles by a score of 1-0. For the Twisters, Allie and Janyce Toth were impenetrable on defense, while Vanessa Tucker and Heidi Poarch were full of hustle at midfield. Jackie Matthews came through again with a last-minute goal to break the hearts of a great opponent. For the American Eagles, Kaysie Fisher played outstanding goal, deflecting multiple attacks on the net. Izzy Kaiser, Olivia Elkins, and Sarah Simenson all played outstanding as part of a great offensive unit. Liza Gentrup made multiple great stops in the midfielder position.

Newtown Sparks 1, Bridgeport All Starz 3: The Sparks only goal was scored by Sarah Widmann on an assist from Emily Celentano in the second half. A strong presence in the goal by Jackier Seras and Madi Ziperstein held the All Starz at three goals.

Newtown Sparks 2, Old Greenwich 3: The Sparks scored late in the game to narrow the gap of a 3-0 game after Old Greenwich scored their third goal off a penalty kick. A goal from Kristen Cirone with an assist from Nathalie Schickendantz came early in the second half, followed by a goal by Emily Celentano in the last ten minutes. The Sparks struggled to get a third goal in the final minutes, keeping Old Greenwich on their toes defending their goal.

Dynamites 2, Darien 1: Despite a constant barrage of shots on the Darien goalie by Jenna Lavelle, Katie Sailer, Keeley Kortze, Ali Kelleher, Haley Harkins, and Audrey Benson were unable to find the back of the net on their home field. Brooke Antous was in goal the first half. In the second half, Lu Hage, Brooke Antous, Lauren Carrino and Katie Sailer each made shots and Rebecca Gavel made the first goal of the game on her birthday. Grace Corcoran then made a save in goal for the Dynamites. The Newtown girls kept up the pressure and a ball bobbled in front of the goal was tapped in by Keeley Kortze. The Darien girls had a breakaway to bring the final to 2-1.

Twisters 0, American Eagles 0: Both teams played excellent defense as evidenced by the final tally. For the Twisters, Isabella De Leon was a force to be reckoned with on offense and Madison Findley’s excellent ball control resulted in numerous drives to the goal. McKenna Cuomo dominated the midfield, providing an impenetrable defense. For the American Eagles, the defense was anchored by the outstanding goaltending of Cathy Hyeon. Multiple shots on goal were deflected allowing the Eagles to stay in the game. Kaysie Fisher and Sarah Simenson also did very well on defense, keeping the ball outside of the goal area, and Beth Motolla played especially well on offense.

 

U12

Westport 3, Dynamite 0: On a cold, windy fall day, the Newtown Dynamite traveled to play an undefeated Westport team. The Dynamite played tough in the first half. The Newtown defense kept Westport in check with strong work by Chloe Rogalin and Amanda Albanesi in goal. The first half ended without either team finding the net. The defensive pressure continued in the second half with tenacious play of Albanesi, Brianna Lutz, and Katie Elkins. However, the Westport offense proved too much.

Old Greenwich 2, Thunder 0: Newtown  played a competitive match against Old Greenwich, but came up short.  As has been the teams mode of operation in recent games, the Thunder dictated the flow of the match, but could not find the goal. Stef Carr and Hailey Conrad  led the offense, while Claire Beiter, Kendra Dunnigan, and Julia Sughrue controlled the midfield. Olivia Caplan and Emily Montoya secured the defense.

Norwalk 2, Thunder 0: The Thunder offense, led by Ali Manfredi and Emily Neave, had several good scoring attempts but ultimately could not find the back of the net. Defenders Lauren Beier and Meghan Kelleher once again did their part to keep the Thunder close. Midfielders were particularly supportive at both ends of the field, with Meghan Doyle and Jess Maturo using their speed to cover vast swaths of field. The Thunder would like to thank their coach Alixe Rose for all his support and guidance during the season.

U14

CHAOS 2, Rockets 2: The Rockets got on the board first with a goal by Hannah Booth with a very nice assist coming from Emily Jerris. CHAOS got the equalizer with a goal by Sierra Mather with an assist from Alex Dittrich. CHAOS was able to take the lead in the second half with a penalty kick by Jesse Sailer. The Rockets closed out the game with Hannah Booth netting her second goal of the day on a penalty kick. Kelly Coughlin and Becky Frank played a tough game on defense for the Rockets. For CHAOS, Anna Baxter, Keira Veillette and Marissa Liberante controlled the ball in the midfield. Ashley Marks and Kayla DiSibio played well on defense.

CHAOS 1, Oompah Loompas 1 (4-3 in penalty kicks): In a playoff game, Jesse Sailer scored the first goal of the game for CHAOS with seconds left in the first half on a shot from just inside the 18 yard mark. Natalie Shaker scored the equalizer for the Oompah Loompas with two minutes remaining in the second half on a one-on-one run that started from the midfield. Penalty kicks by Andrea Rodriguez, Briana Baranoski, and Tessa Leon-Gambetta for the Oompah Loompas were matched by CHAOS with goals by Sierra Mather, Ashley Marks, and Chrissy Moore.

CHAOS pulled out the win in sudden death with a goal by Morgan Goldstein. Hannah Grant and Amanda Donovan provided strong play throughout the game for CHAOS. For the Oompah Loompas, Caroline Cole and Abby Winters played a strong midfield game moving the ball up the field. Elizabeth Delp and Callie Kraushaar supplied a strong defensive effort. Briana Baranoski provided great goaltending and defense. Grace Frost was a force on offense.

Boys

U10

Vipers 9, Monroe United White 2: The dedication and determination of coaches D’Amico, “Sully,” Matt, and James paid off on Sunday with a Vipers win. The Vipers collectively demonstrated their development as a team technically, tactically, physically, and mentally. Bryce Bisset and Dylan Sock, each with two goals, dominated the offense with relentless drives to the net. Sean Arnold, with two goals, and Owen Sullivan dazzled all with superior foot work, ball control and speed throughout the match. Small but mighty midis Henry Vaughan, who had two goals, and Travis Huzinas’s hustle and desire were key in keeping the ball on the opponents side and in developing several plays. Playing outstanding as keeper for the first half, CJ Trivers took an opportunity to bend a rocket shot from the side line to score.

Jackson Dooly’s bubble wrapped arm cast didn’t hinder his continuous attacks on the ball and playing a solid defense. Declan Sugrue was a physical force to be reckoned with while on the field and was stellar in goal with four saves. Adam Farley and Jack McDermottt’s diverse abilities to play almost all positions on the pitch to perfection speaks to their amazing athletic talents. Danny Schrieber scored a goal and had a strong presence on the field as the reliable defenseman that he is and by aggressively attacking while playing as midfielder.

U12

Newtown Yellow 3, Ridgefield Orange 2: Pouring a high intensity attack into their season finale, Newtown used its speedy offense and gritty defense to control the game for 80 minutes. Michael Liberante and John Bienkowski provided the legs that kept Ridgefield’s defense a stride behind, and enabled Liberante’s blast to take an early lead. Chad Azzarito provided key stops in the net to keep the first half momentum in Newtown’s favor.

Early in the second half, a determined defense, led by Theodore Silverman and Tiernan Keane, held a reorganized Ridgefield team to a 1-1 tie. Dylan Kretz then got an opportunity to nimbly maneuver through Ridgefield’s defense and net Newtown’s second goal. Following a strong blast by Ridgefield to tie the score, Bienkowski put the game away with a roller just inside the left post. The victory culminated a steadily improving season for Martin Greening’s team, and punctuated their hard work and dedication.

Newtown 3, Weston 1: Matthew Guinee started the festivities by scoring twice, one on a blast from the top of the box off a deft Thomas Leuci pass and the second on a beautiful touch shot over the goalie’s head off a perfectly placed pass from Sam Grossano. Owen Samson, Luke Kaplan, and Dillion Kretz played great midfield and defense making consistent quality passes up the field to the aggressive Newtown offensive players. Connery Mayer capped the scoring off with an impressive shot past the goalie off a well-placed Nathan Augenbraun pass.

Once again, as it has been all year, the defense was spectacular. With the powerful combination of Jack Lavelle, Robert Katrinak, Jack Riley, and Benjamin Tuffy hammering all opposing offenders that dared to play near the Newtown goal, which was manned by Alex Hess, who made a great save on a blistering high shot on goal…..Congratulations to the boys and to Coach Alixe Rose on a great season!

U13

Newtown 1, Norwalk: 1: Strikers score on a penalty kick goal by James Carney. Coached by James Kelly and captained by Rob Schreiber and John Carlson, the Strikers finish the season in first place in their division with a record of 6-0-2 in regular season play.
