Football And Cheer Program Holds Food Drive
In addition to a fun-filled day of football games and cheerleading, the 5th Annual Newtown Youth Football and Cheer Newtown Day, held recently at Treadwell Park, also hosted a food drive to benefit the Newtown Social Services Food Pantry.
The Newtown Social Services Food Pantry helps Newtown families by providing free non-perishable food items, paper products and health and beauty products.
With the help of 15 football and cheer youth volunteers, all of the donations were loaded into a U-Haul
truck (which was generously donated by Berkshire Motors of Newtown for the event) and taken to the Social Services Food Pantry. The collection stocked a room of bare shelves to a point of nearly overflowing in some areas.
âWeâre an all-volunteer group that believes in community, and thatâs what weâre remembering today,â said Sean Dunn, President of Newtown Youth Football and Cheer. âIt takes the strength of a community to get through tough times like these ⦠and we want to teach our youth players and cheerleaders the importance of giving back.â
Kinga Walsh, who coordinated the Food Drive, commented on how rewarding it is to bring together a community through helping others. âEveryone was so generous with their donations ⦠as well as volunteering their time. Small acts of kindness, when added together, create huge results,â said Walsh, adding that the NYF&C family should be proud.
