Commitment And Loyalty To The Community
Commitment And Loyalty
To The Community
To the Editor:
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company for their prompt and thorough response to a call placed on October 6. When faced with the loss of electricity and a suspicious odor as the result of turning on a television (later determined to be the result of a wire in the basement that had become loose), we called on the Newtown Hook & Ladder to survey the house for any potential danger. The volunteers arrived promptly, well prepared, and treated us with the utmost courtesy and respect. They conducted a thorough and professional search of the house checking for heat in the walls and anything else that may be suspicious and potentially dangerous.
Being new to Newtown (two months), we were surprised to learn that the town fire department was comprised of only volunteers. The men that worked at our home that night hold full-time jobs in other towns and then volunteer their services during their free time to protect Newtown, their hometown. This example of commitment and loyalty to community is one of the many reasons we chose to move to Newtown. We wanted to live in a town that held those virtues high and having met the wonderful volunteers of the Newtown Hook & Ladder Company has only reinforced our decision. We are fortunate to live in a town with such devoted residents, and I cannot thank them again for their help.
