Passenger Injured
Newtown Police report that a passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-car crash on Church Hill Road was slightly injured and required treatment from ambulance volunteers. The incident, which occurred at 4:40 pm on November 5, involved Zachary Fabian-Craig, 18, of Southbury who police say was operating a 1995 Nissan Altima eastbound on Church Hill Road when he reportedly slowed behind a pickup truck in front of him before merging to the right to turn onto Interstate 84. As he passed the pickup, police say he failed to stop in time for a 2001 Honda Civic that was turning and traveling across the second lane, having been waved on by the driver of the pickup. The Honda, with two passengers on board, was being operated by Jennifer Graham, 17, of Old Farm Road. Both vehicles had slight damage, but one of the passengers complained of left arm pain, prompting officers to call for emergency medical observation. According to the report, the injured party was not transferred to the hospital, and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
Police Seeking Driver
Newtown Police are seeking information or witnesses to a 4:57 pm crash that occurred November 8 at 235 South Main Street. According to the report, an older model blue pickup truck with mounted tool boxes and rusted racks attached to its bed exited a parking lot to travel southbound on South Main Street. This caused Daniel McIlrath, 23, of Sugar Loaf Road who was operating a 1992 Mitsubishi Mirage southbound to take evasive action. Police say the pickup hit the sedan and continued into the parking lot at 232 South Main and disappeared behind a building there. Mr McIlrath said he was unable to locate the truck, and notified police. No action was taken against the driver who remained on scene, but police are looking to question the driver of the truck. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Steven Siecienki at 203-426-5841.
Driver At Fault
Despite a driverâs claim that he hit guardrails attempting to avoid a deer, State Police charged Hector Torres, 41, of Waterbury with failure to drive in an established lane November 11 after investigating a single vehicle crash at about 4:14 am on the eastbound side of Interstate 84 a half-mile east of Exit 11. According to the report, the operator said he was heading eastbound in the left lane when he swerved to avoid a deer and struck about 40 feet of metal wire rope guardrail damaging his 2007 Honda Civic to the extent where it had to be towed from the scene. The investigating trooper stated that he found no evidence to indicate a deer was struck, and issued the infraction. There were no injuries reported.
Highway Rollover
State Police responded to a report of a rollover collision just east of Exit 11 on Interstate 84 at 1:59 am on November 8 that resulted in injuries to the driver to the extent that he required transport to Danbury Hospital. According to the report, Cesar Ruiz-Iorenzo, 30, of Bristol was operating eastbound when his 1998 Honda Civic left the roadway, continued up an embankment, grazed the top of a guardrail and rolled onto its roof. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
