Three

Violations

Police said that while on patrol about 2:25 pm on November 10, they spotted motorist Christopher Defeo, 43, of New Milford using a handheld cellphone while driving southward near 7 South Main Street, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police report they charged Defeo with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, driving with a suspended license, and with driving an unregistered vehicle.

Defeo was released on $500 bail for a November 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Main Street

Motorist Diane Keane, 51, of 10 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan southward near 43 Main Street about 3 pm on November 7, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a southbound 1997 Infiniti QX-4 SUV driven by Miguel Valeri, 59, of Bethel, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

Slippery

Police report that motorist Michael Tobin, Jr, 19, of 46 Narragansett Trail, who was driving a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon coupe northward near 87 South Main Street about 1:30 pm on October 29, applied his brakes due to traffic conditions, but went into a skid on the snowy road, becoming perpendicular to the street.

Northbound motorist Devon LaCroix, 24, of 70 Glen Road, who was driving a 1995 Subaru Impreza sedan behind the Hyundai, then applied the Subaru’s brakes but struck the Hyundai, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

Toyota Vs Subaru

Police report a two-vehicle accident in snowy conditions near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Saw Mill Road about 2 pm on October 29.

The collision involved motorist Gary Storms, 65, of 41 Paugussett Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Avalon sedan, and motorist Ronald Corda, 61, of Shelton, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy sedan, police said. There were no injuries, according to police.

Church Hill Accident

Police report an accident on the section of Church Hill Road in front of the Blue Colony Diner about 12:24 pm on November 7.

The collision involved motorist Jennifer Walker, 32, of 24 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV, and motorist Deborah Posta, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Highlander SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Fault for the accident could not be determined, so police said they took no enforcement.

Botsford Sideswipe

At about 10:40 am on November 9, Jerry Iodice, 53, of Southbury was driving a 2011 Ford F-350 pickup truck eastward near 27 Button Shop Road, as Philip Lopiano, Jr, 48, of Monroe was driving a 2007 Kenworth T-300 truck westward there, according to police.

A sideswipe accident involving both vehicles occurred along the road’s center line, but it could not be determined who was at fault, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned both drivers for failure to grant one-half of the highway.

DUI Incident

Police report that motorist Jeffrey Goldstein, 33, of Danbury was driving a 2008 Ford Focus auto northward on Queen Street about 2:30 am on November 13, when the Ford went off the right side of the road near 11 Queen Street, damaging the vehicle.

Police said that after investigating the accident, they charged Goldstein with driving under the influence and with making an improper right turn.

After processing the arrest, police released Goldstein on $100 bail for a November 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

GMC Into Ditch

Motorist Gwendolyn Peterson, 50, of Largo, Fla., was driving a 1997 GMC Yukon SUV southward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Prospect Drive, about 9:15 am on November 4, when she attempted to pass another vehicle, but instead went off the right side of the roadway entering a construction zone and landing in a water-filled ditch, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said Peterson received an infraction for making a restricted turn and for driving without a license.

South Main Crash

Motorist Andre Williams, 27, of Stratford was driving a 2005 Chevrolet AstroVan minivan northward near 153 South Main Street about 4:15 pm on November 10 and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which northbound motorist Bobby Lee Cyr, 51, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck, struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police report.

All four passengers riding in the Chevrolet reported non-evident neck/back pain, police said. All four were transported to Danbury Hospital by ambulance volunteers for medical evaluation, according to police.

Police said Cyr received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Truck Vs Truck

Police report an accident involving two trucks at the intersection of Turnberry Lane and Toddy Hill Road about 4:30 pm on November 11.

Michael Palkimas, Jr, 30, of Middletown, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westward on Turnberry Lane, was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Kyle Nowak, 26, of 7 Patriot Ridge Road was driving a 2004 UD truck westward on Turnberry Lane behind the Toyota, police said.

The Toyota then backed up, striking the front end of the UD, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Palkimas a written warning for unsafe backing.

Queen/Glover

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the three-way intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 10:20 am on November 12.

Police said motorist Drew Parsons, 26, of 20 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, was waiting at a stop sign on Glover Avenue, when motorist Constance Huebner, 64, of 12 Ox Hill Road, who was driving a 2009 Ford Edge SUV eastward on Glover Avenue, struck the rear end of the Nissan.

There were no injuries. Huebner received a written warning for following too closely, police report.

 

Shoplifting

Police said this week that they are investigating a shoplifting incident that occurred sometime between 7:10 and 7:20 am on November 5 at the Big Y supermarket at 6 Queen Street.

Police said a short white man, about age 45, with short hair who was wearing a baseball cap, a dark jacket and a dark T-shirt, stole some Enfamil-brand infant formula and some Red Bull-brand energy drink valued at an overall price of about $290.

Police said store security staff discovered the theft on November 7 while reviewing a security video recording of the premises. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Burglary Case

Police report that they were called midday on November 11 to a house on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road, to resolve a dispute that had occurred.

Police said that a previous resident of that house, who had been evicted from the premises in the past, was removing some property that belongs to the new homeowner there.

The items being removed from the property included scrap metal, a water heater, and a water storage tank, police said. The removal of the water tank created some property damage, police said.

Following their investigation into the incident, police charged three Torrington residents each with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and fifth-degree larceny. Police arrested Christina Brague, 37; William Gomez, 24; and Henry Williams, 51, on those charges.

Each person was released on $500 bail for November 22 court appearances, police said.

Berkshire DUI

At about 3:17 am on November 13, police responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Liberty Drive.

After investigating at the scene, police said they determined that the driver of the vehicle, Guilherme Dutra, 21, of Danbury was intoxicated. Police said they charged Dutra with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following processing, police released Dutra on $50 bail for a November 29 court appearance.

Trespassing

About 6 pm on November 14, police received a call reporting a trespassing incident at a Main Street residence in the area north of that street’s intersection with Glover Avenue, so they went there to investigate.

Police allege that Karl Williams, 47, of Ansonia entered the home without permission while the homeowner was not present. Police said they thus issued Williams an infraction for simple trespassing.

 

Church Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Church Hill Road at the Exit 10 interchange for Interstate 84 about 7:38 am on November 11.

Motorist Karen Omasta, 59, of 8 Crown View Drive was driving a 2002 Jeep eastward on Church Hill Road and was then attempting to make a left turn onto the westbound I-84 on-ramp, police said.

Motorist Fredrick Levesque, 59, of Thomaston, who was driving a 2008 Ford, was driving eastward behind the Jeep and also was attempting to make a left turn onto the ramp, police said.

Due to traffic conditions, the Jeep stopped, resulting in the Ford striking the rear end of the Jeep, police said.

There were no injuries. Levesque received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Chain Reaction

Three vehicles traveling southward near 84 South Main Street were involved in a chain-reaction accident about 5:20 pm on November 9, according to police.

In that accident, the three vehicles were slowing for traffic conditions.

A 1998 Chevrolet Lumina sedan driven by Morgan Silva, 16, Trumbull, struck the rear end of a 2003 Honda CRV SUV driven by David Noonan, 36, of New Milford, pushing the Honda forward into the rear end of a 2008 Ford Explorer SUV driven by William Collins, 43, of Stratford, police said. 

Noonan reported pain, but refused medical treatment after ambulance volunteers arrived at the scene, police said.

Silva received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Keys Found

Some keys, including a key for a Subaru auto, which were attached to a Perry Ellis-brand key chain were turned over to police for safekeeping on November 14. Police said the item had been found on October 9 near the Treadwell Park poolhouse/playground area. The owner may contact police to claim the item.

 

Highway DUI

State police report they spotted motorist Milton Mora, 33, of Danbury driving erratically on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 6:50 pm November 12, so they stopped Mora to investigate.

State police said they charged Mora with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and with a driver’s license violation.

After processing, Mora was released on $2,000 bail for a November 21 court appearance, state police said.

 

I-84 Crash

State police report that a 61-year-old Newtown woman was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 5:23 pm on November 11, when the Nissan was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle whose driver then drove away from the scene of the crash.

The Nissan driver said she experienced pain, but did not want medical attention at the scene, state police said.

NHS Incident

Police report that school officials called for aid from the police department’s school resource officer about 12:45 pm on November 10, after a student had been using profanities and acting violently toward school staff.

Police said that after being warned to calm down, the student continued the negative behavior.

Police said they charged the youth with second-degree breach of peace. Police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on November 28.

Because the person arrested is under age 18, the student’s identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Saturn Into Rails

Police report that motorist Jonathan Hull, 17, of 6 Old Castle Drive was driving a 1992 Saturn sedan southward near 42 Huntingtown Road about 3 pm November 11 and then encountered a landscaping truck on the road, which Hull then swerved to avoid.

But in making that maneuver, the Saturn struck some guardrailing alongside the road, police said. There were no injuries. Hull received a written warning for failure to drive to the right, police said.

Noisy Vehicle

About 12:55 am on November 9, police received a complaint concerning a suspicious vehicle on Miya Lane. Miya Lane is a residential dead-end street that extends from the intersection of Cherry Street and Pine Street in Sandy Hook.

Police said they located the vehicle in question and investigated, after which they charged motorist Cortney Troccolla, 24, of 155 Alpine Drive with creating excessive or unusual noise with a motor vehicle and with driving with a suspended license.

Police said they released Troccolla on $50 bail for a November 23 court appearance.

Vandalism

Sometime between 9 am and 5 pm on November 3, someone vandalized an unspecified vehicle that was parked in the rear parking lot at Booth Library at 25 Main Street, police said.

The vehicle had been parked in the lot in a manner that would physically reserve a space for a bookmobile that was scheduled to stop at the library that day.

The vandal left a note in the vandalized vehicle complaining that the vehicle was occupying two parking spaces, police said.

The vandal apparently used a key to deface the right side of the vehicle. Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone who knows the vandal’s identity to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Theft From Vehicle

Someone sometime between 8:20 and 8:50 am on November 14 broke a passenger-side window of an Acura MDX SUV that was parked at Club NewFit at 23 Commerce Road, police said.

The forced entry into the SUV also damaged the vehicle’s door. The thief stole a purse containing cash and credit card from within the Acura, police said. The total loss is estimated at $870. Police ask people with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Evading Responsibility

Police said this week that sometime during a major snowstorm on October 29, an unknown motorist who was driving a white pickup truck with a cargo bed cover affixed to it struck a parked unspecified vehicle on the northbound shoulder of Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Farrell Road. The truck’s driver then drove away from the accident. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to call them at 203-426-5841.
