Plans Two Tree Lighting Events

BETHEL — The Stony Hill Four Corners Association (SH4C) is preparing for the upcoming holiday season with two tree lightings that will feature live music, singing, snacks, hot drinks, and opportunities for families to help support three charitable initiatives.

The SH4C is a business association that incorporates a number of members near the border between Bethel and Newtown, and one event has been planned in each town.

The Stony Hill Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Food Drive will take place Saturday, November 19, in the Big Y parking lot at 83 Stony Hill Road (Route 6).  The food drive begins at noon, and residents are encouraged to help Santa collect food for hungry neighbors in both Bethel and Newtown.

All donations will be split exclusively for food banks in each town.

Stony Hill’s tree lighting is happening across from Big Y at one of the area’s “four corners” between 5:30 and 6:30 pm.

The event will feature a local music troupe called The Pears, refreshments, singing, and a performance by the SH4C “Rockettes” of Dance Etc.

Members of the Stony Hill and Hawleyville fire companies are also involved, collecting food and hanging holiday decorations for the events.

The Hawleyville Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Toy Collection will take place Sunday, December 4, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at 23 Barnabas Road in Newtown — the site of the new Hawleyville Post Office.

Local musicians Billy Michael and Wendy Mitchell will be performing, and there will be refreshments and caroling. SH4C is asking attendees to bring unwrapped children’s gifts, which will be given to the Newtown Fund, a social service organization that provides assistance to local residents.

The SH4C is comprised of participating businesses throughout the Stony Hill corridor, which runs along Route 6 between Exit 8 to Exit 9 off Interstate 84.

The organization holds several promotions annually to support local business besides the holiday tree lightings, including an Amber Alert registration every spring and a benefit pancake breakfast with 100 of the proceeds donated to Stony Hill’s ambulance fund, which provides mutual emergency aid in Newtown when required.
