Girl Scout Book Sale Scheduled For This Saturday

Newtown Girl Scouts will be overseeing the organization’s annual book sale this Saturday, November 12, from 9 am until 2 pm at the Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road.

Girl Scout cookies will also be on sale during the event, and, like last year, gently used winter coats will also be up for sale. The group will also accept gently used winter coats for donations during the day. Anyone interested in dropping of coats for the drive can stop by between 8:30 am until 2 pm.

Girl Scouts are asked to donate to the book drive each year, and the donating Girl Scouts are offered their choice of books in exchange for those they bring in.

“It’s a really great program,” said organizer Robbin Chaber.

Ms Chaber said all books are sold a “really good prices” for anyone interested in the books. Usually, she said, the book sale collects several thousand books each year. Leftover books are distributed and donated throughout Fairfield County, according to Ms Chaber.

Last year the event collected more than 400 gently used winter coats for children through adults.
