Shirley M. Hurd, 90, previously of Heritage Village, Southbury and Monroe, died November 6 at Ashlar of Newtown. Mrs Hurd was born in Bridgeport on May 5, 1916, a daughter of Lester and Ella Mae (Knapp) Carroll. She was the wife of the late Lewis Hurd.
Two daughters, Carol Platt and Helen Hurd of Newtown; three sons, William Hurd of Roxbury, Robert Hurd of Monroe, and Kenneth Hurd of Hinesburg, Vt.; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Hurd. She was predeceased by a son, Donald Hurd.
Mrs Hurd lived most of her life in Monroe and was a co-founder of the Monroe Little League. She was a resident of Heritage Village from 1984 until 1999, when she became a resident of Ashlar of Newtown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, November 10, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St, Newtown. Interment will follow in Monroe Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
