Mike Troy (Fairfield University men’s soccer) – Scored the lone goal as the Stags captured the MAAC championship with a 1-0 win over St. Peter’s and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time under head coach Carl Rees. After just missing on several occasions against St. Peter’s, Fairfield finally broke through off a free kick. Alex Cunliffe controlled the ball inside the box, drew a double-team about 25 yards from the near post, and then sent a crisp pass to the feet of Troy, who took a shot from 10 yards out which bounced off the Saint Peter’s goalkeeper and into the corner of the net. The Stags open the NCAA Tournament this Saturday, at 1 pm, at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.

Abby Atkinson (Bucknell University swimming and diving) – Led off the ‘C’ relay team which finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a 168-132 loss to Boston College on October 29 and then finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:11.10 mark, less than a second behind Bucknell’s Kelly Morris. She also anchored the ‘B’ relay team which finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay … in a 139-96 win over Holy Cross to open the 2006-07 season, Atkinson was part of a ‘B’ relay that finished second in the 200 medley relay and then, later, took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:14.06 mark.

Matt Pachniuk (Wheaton College men’s soccer) – Wheaton College defended its 2005 NEWMAC championship with a 1-0 win over Babson on November 5. The senior goalkeeper – the winningest keeper in Wheaton history – made a sliding save with two seconds left in the first half to keep Babson scoreless and finished with four saves on the day. He was named NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week for the week ending on Sunday, November 5 as he extended his shutout streak to 357:25 by posting a pair of shutouts during the NEWMAC Tournament.

Marcus Tracy (Wake Forest men’s soccer) – Co-champions of the ACC regular season, the Demon Deacons dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Duke in the conference championship. With the NCAA tournament looming for the 15-3-3 Deacons, Tracy is third on the team with four goals and tied for third on the team with 10 points.

Casey Frobey (Fairfield University women’s soccer) – Was named MAAC Rookie of the Year for the Lady Stags (9-7-4), who fell 2-0 to Niagara in the MAAC tournament semi-finals. Frobey led the Stags offensively, tallying 12 goals and three assists for 27 points. Her 12 goals is the third best single-season effort in program history and put her among the nation’s best rookies. Her goals and points rank her third in the league, while her point total ranks her eighth in the Stags single-season record book.

Diana Grimaldi (Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team) – Has registered 115 kills for the 21-10 Lady Saints with 25 service aces, 38 digs and 51 blocks. The Lady Saints won their last 15 matches and were set to meet No. 3 Amherst College on Thursday in the NCAA tournament.

Ryan Tracy (University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer) – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) named Ryan Tracy to the 2006 CoSIDA Academic All-District II second team. He is majoring mechanical engineering and applied mechanics and in his senior season has scored four goals with two assists. The Quakers (9-4-2) closed out the regular season with a 1-0 overtime win at Princeton on November 4 and await the NCAA tournament.

Tara Ryan (Skidmore College women’s tennis) – Skidmore College placed 35 athletes on the fall Liberty League All-Academic teams and Tara Ryan made it for her efforts with the women’s tennis team. The Lady Thoroughbreds finished 5-4 during the fall season, concluding with a fourth-place finish at the NYSWCAA Tournament.

Nicole Sieber (Western Connecticut State University women’s soccer) – The 19-1-1 Lady Colonials, ranked fourth in the latest NSCAA pool, captured the Little East Tournament title with a 4-2 win over Keene State and will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III tournament this weekend. WCSU will face Western New England (11-7-2), the Great Northeast Athletic Conference champions. While playing and starting in 20 games, Sieber has registered five goals and seven assists for 17 points.

Tara Gaston (Gettysburg College women’s soccer) – The Lady Bullets fell, 1-0, to Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference semi-finals and concluded the regular season at 12-6-1. Gaston played in 18 games, starting 15, and notched a goal.

Alex Konneker (Manhattan College women’s soccer) – Was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team (along with former teammate Casey Frobey of Fairfield – see above). She finished the regular season with five goals and four assists for the 12-5-2 Lady Jaspers.

Chelsea Morin (Ursinus College women’s soccer) – The Lady Bears fell, 1-0, to Muhlenberg in the first round of the Centennial Conference tournament and dropped to 8-7-1 on the year. Morin finished with two goals and two assists for six points.

Rachel Bolmer (Western Connecticut State University field hockey) – Finished with four goals for the 1-14-0 Lady Colonials.

Brian Miles (Montclair State men’s soccer) – The No. 1 seeded Hawks captured the NJAC Tournament championship with a 2-1 double-overtime win over No. 3 New Jersey City University on November 3. The Hawks finished the NJAC season at 19-1-0 and were awaiting the NCAA Tournament seeding. Miles has played in 19 games, registering four assists.

Kim Allen (Castleton State University women’s soccer) – Castleton dropped a 2-1 decision to Mount Ida in the NAC Conference quarterfinals and fell to 9-9-2 on the year. Allen has started 16 games, posting a 6-8-2 record with 118 saves (.803 percenbtage) and a 1.79 goals-against average.

Chris Hoagland (Castleton State University men’s soccer) – Fourth-seeded Castleton fell, 3-1, to top-seeded Lasell in the NAC Conference tournament and dropped to 8-11-2 on the year. Hoagland finished with two goals and two assists.

Allison Frobey (Plymouth State University women’s soccer) – The Panthers finished 7-8-2 on the year. Frobey, a senior co-captain, played in all 17 games, starting 16, and notched two assists.

Brendan Cavanaugh (Roger Williams University men’s soccer) – With a  3-2 win over No. 2 seeded Salve Regina, top seeded Roger Williams captured the Commonwealth Conference championship on November 4 and improved to 13-6-2. Cavanaugh has three goals and four assists on the year.

Bobby Pattison (Ithaca College football) – Has played in four games with one assisted tackle for the 7-2 Bombers.

Marc Doherty (University of South Florida men’s soccer) – Played in seven games for the 9-6-4 Bulls and registered one shot on goal.
