Garner Inmate Arrested On Multiple Charges
State police arrested a Garner Correctional Institution inmate on assault and weapon charges following an incident at the high-security prison on November 2.
State police said that prisoner Nam Van, 32, physically assaulted a female prison counselor causing minor injuries to her late on the morning of November 2. Van was then found to be in possession of a homemade knife, state police said.
State police charged Van with assault on a state Department of Correction (DOC) worker, third-degree assault, and possession of a weapon in a correctional institution.
Van was scheduled for arraignment November 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
Van is serving a 14-year sentence in Garner on a first-degree burglary conviction.
