Church Fair Flaunts Crafters, Art
The 2006 Newtown United Methodist Church Arts and Crafts Fair on October 21 saw the gymnasium of Reed Intermediate School transformed into rows of stained glass, jewelry, household decorations, soaps, pottery, old-fashioned handmade items, baked goods, and more. Highlights included 30 professional crafters and artisans both local and from out of state who catered to the crowd of residents.
Local sponsors contributed to the fairâs success.
In addition to raising funds to help the church itself (approximately $9,000), totals for this yearâs event also included $376 raised by The Bolivia Booth, which will go directly to Bolivia, and $380 from the sales of ornaments for The Whitman Scholarship, which is the churchâs scholarship fund.
Next yearâs fair is already being planned, according to 2006 co-chairs Ann and Kevin Siladi and Bob Virgalla. The 2007 fair â the churchâs 16th annual offering â will take place on Saturday, October 20.
