Carl Beck, 77, husband of Lois M. (Waehler) Beck of Newtown, died November 3. He was born in Scranton, Penn., June 15, 1929, the son of Carl and Helen (Cosgrove) Beck. He lived in Newtown for 46 years.
Mr Beck graduated from Warren Harding High School and attended the University of Bridgeport. He was a marketing manager for Remington Arms until his retirement in 1984.
Mr Beck was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War. He had been an active member in past years of the Newtown Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, a past member of the Republican Town Committee, and had delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a current member of The Newtown Fish and Game Club.
Mr Beck had been an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, serving as head usher for many years. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, his own backyard, and loved to plant a vegetable garden. Spending time with his family was most important to him. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by his daughter Karen Kayfus and son-in-law, Frank Kayfus, of Southbury; his daughter Kathi Beck of Watertown; his son Randall Beck of Virginia and his son, Jonathan Beck, of Woodbury. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Kayfus and his wife, Rebecca, of Oxford, Adam Kayfus of Naugatuck, Rachel Kayfus of Southbury, and Jonathan Beck of New Fairfield; and his great-grandchildren, Sanya and Matthew Kayfus of Oxford. Mr Beck is also survived by his sister, Jane Cheshinski, and brother-in-law, Tony, of Bridgeport. His brother, Thomas Beck, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 11 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt Pleasant Road, Newtown. A luncheon reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
