NVCC Lists Spring Courses For City Center
Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) spring 2001 course catalogs for the collegeâs City Center site have been mailed to homes throughout the greater Danbury area. The catalogs, which include new course offerings at Rogers Park Middle School, are part of NVCCâs expansion of services in the Danbury community.
For the spring 2001 semester, the City Center site offers several additional courses in English as a Second Language (ESL), Accounting, Art, Communications, and Hospitality Management. Other courses offered include English, Literature, Psychology, History, Communications, and Accounting.Â
Returning City Center students can register for all Spring 2001 courses at Rogers Park Middle School November 20, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Open registration begins at the school November 27, Monday through Thursday, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The demand for additional ESL courses was considerable this fall and is addressed with two new courses for the spring semester. The additional courses provide more advanced reading, writing, and advanced conversation skills. There will also be a PC course that teaches the basics of personal computers specifically designed for non-English speaking students offered at the Putnam Imaging Center in the spring semester. In addition, NVCCâs expansion of services in the Danbury area is evident in a recent $75,000 grant from the State Department of Labor for the collegeâs Center for Business and Industry Training (CBIT). The grant will allow CBIT to offer a pilot workforce development program to four high performance manufacturers located in western Connecticut.
CBIT has served as a workforce training resource for western Connecticut companies for more than 20 years. In conjunction with greater Danbury area companies, it developed the Housatonic Education for Advanced Technology (HEAT), a training network of high-technology businesses. The grant will enable CBIT to assist four additional companies during the next 12 months. The participating manufacturers will be announced within several weeks.
