Everyman Guild Holiday Concert: A Celebration

Of Medieval & Renaissance Music

SEYMOUR — The Everyman Guild returns to Trinity Episcopal Church, 91 Church Street, this year with a special candlelight evening of music for Advent and Christmas. “In Dulci Jubilo: Medieval and Renaissance Music For Christmas” will be performed Saturday, December 9, at 7 pm. Admission is $7.

From the many Medieval and Renaissance settings of the Nativity story, Everyman has chosen one of the most hauntingly beautiful — O Magnum Mysterium (O Great Mystery) by Thomas Luis de Victoria — to be the featured work of the evening.

Along with the mystery of Christmas also comes merriment. Everyman Guild therefore will be presenting a great variety of sacred and secular celebrations from Italy, France, Germany, Portugal and Spain. The songs, instrumental music and dance of Spain will connect those in attendance to some of the richest influences in our present-day traditions.

The Everyman Guild is known for its superb vocal presentations of early music. Adding to this reputation will be extensive and spectacular performances on a wide variety of early instruments by some of its newest members. Along with examples of period dances, the spectacular costumes and the sheer joy of performance that is evident in all Everyman presentations, this promises to be a true feast for the eyes, ears, heart and soul.
