Palace Danbury To Host Premiere Connecticut Screening Of ‘The Last Ride’

DANBURY — On Saturday, November 10, The Palace Danbury will host the premiere Connecticut screening of the film The Last Ride. Starring Henry Thomas, Jesse James and Kaley Couco, the movie is the story of the final three days in the life of of country music legend Hank Williams.

Hank Williams was one of the greatest singer-songwriters who ever lived. He pretty much invented what we know as country music. At the peak of his career, Williams was acknowledged to be the greatest singer-songwriter in American history.

After a meteoric rise to super-stardom in the late 1940s, drugs, alcohol and a hair-trigger temper had ended two marriages, ruined a host of friendships and made the tortured genius an untouchable in the music business.

At the end of 1952, Williams gathered what was left of his physical strength to make things right, and begin the long road back. He booked New Year’s shows in West Virginia and Ohio, and hired a local kid who didn’t even own a radio, much less know who this legend was, to drive him there from Montgomery, Alabama. Somewhere along that last ride, however, the country music legend passed away, in back of his powder blue Cadillac, carrying only his guitar and a notebook full of unfinished songs. He was 29.

The movie’s soundtrack plays an integral role in the telling of this story. It contains some of the best-known Hank Williams songs as well as new material written specifically for this project. Performers include Jett Williams (Hank Williams’s daughter), the late Johnny Cash, and numerous country and gospel artists.

The Last Ride will be screened at The Palace Danbury, 165 Main Street, on Saturday, November 10, at 8 pm.

Tickets are $12 in advance (order online at ThePalaceDanbury.com) and $15 at the door. Free parking is readily available for theatre patrons behind the building.
