Paintball Vandals
On October 17, police received a complaint from an individual who reported witnessing someone shooting yellow and orange paintballs at a house and unoccupied vehicle on Fleetwood Avenue. The suspect vehicle was described as possibly being a silver four-door Toyota or Honda sedan. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 203-426-5841 and speak to officer Joseph Michael.
Pool House
Sometime during the overnight on October 31, a pool house at a home on Philo Curtis Road was vandalized. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ben Mulhall at 203-426-5841.
Found Glasses
On November 4, a pair of gray Nike/Flexon glasses were found in the area of 15 Jeremiah Road in Sandy Hook. The owner can contact Officer William Hull at 203-426-5841 or e-mail: william.hull@newtown-ct.gov to retrieve them.
Juvenile Warrant
On November 5, Newtown police arrested a Danbury juvenile at Danbury Juvenile Court on two separate charges of failure to appear. The individual was transported to Newtown and held on $2,500 bond for arraignment the following day in Danbury.
Restricted Turn
Police report that at about 9:03 pm on November 4, Andrew Balmeri, 24, of Swamp Road was operating a 2001 Ford F350 southward on Botsford Hill Road when the vehicle left the roadwayâs west shoulder, traveled down an embankment and damaged the vehicle to the extent it had to be towed from the scene. The driver was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Two-Vehicle Wreck
On November 4 at about 7:15 pm, police report that William Rogaini, 50, of Seymour was operating a 2007 GMC Acadia station wagon eastbound on Osborne Hill Road, when he attempted to make a turn onto Yogananda Street, striking the driverâs side of a 2009 Acura TL being operated by Peter Wallace of Canterbury Road, that had stopped for a stop sign at the intersection. No injuries were reported, but the GMC had to be towed from the scene. Rogaini was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Flagpole Crash
At about 10:27 am on October 27, police say Pedro Rodriguez, Jr, of Danbury, who was operating a 2001 Honda Odyssey SUV, failed to grant the right of way after traveling into the intersection of Main Street and Church Hill Road, from Church Hill Road. As a result, Rodriguez struck a Ford F150 pickup that had come to a stop on Main Street waiting to turn down Church Hill Road. No injuries were reported and Rodriguez was issued a written warning for the offense.
South Main Crash
Police say that on November 2 at about 4:40 pm, Catherine Yamin, 62, of Black Bridge Road, Sandy Hook was traveling northbound on South Main Street in her 2003 Subaru Legacy, when she turned into Country Club Road, striking a 2012 Ford Taurus being operated southbound by Michael DâAddario of Bristol. Yamin was issued a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Rear Ender
At about 5:39 pm on November 5, Nancy Bosley, 65, of Watkins Drive, Sandy Hook was operating a 2010 Mercedes sedan behind a 2005 Mazda 3 that was reportedly waiting to turn from Currituck Road onto main Street. When the Mazda, which was being operated by Alexandra Pelletier, 25, of Sugar Street moved forward and stopped, it was struck from behind by the Mercedes, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported and Bosley was issued a written warning for following too close.
No License
On October 26 at about 10:58 am, Ailton Peres DaSilva, 36, of Cottage Street, Danbury, was traveling north on Hattertown Road in a 2000 Ford F150 pickup, when he told police a red and white dump truck traveling in the opposite lane crossed the center line and struck his vehicle. Police could not locate the offending vehicle, but DaSilva was issued an infraction for operating without a driverâs license.
Three Deer Strikes
On November 1 between 10:18 am and 6:10 pm, police investigated three separate motor vehicle crashes involving single vehicles striking deer that entered the roadway. The first, on Mt Pleasant Road, damaged a 2007 Toyota Prius being operated by Beth Callahan, 58, of Slingerlands, N.Y. The second, a short time later on Hawleyville Road, damaged a 2010 Toyota Camry being operated by Ronald Herron, 68, of Old Woods Road, Brookfield. The third incident, at Walnut Tree Hill and Bridge End Farm Roads, involved a 1998 Plymouth Voyager being operated by Margaret McIntyre, 50, of Shepaug Road, Sandy Hook. No injuries were reported to any of the operators.
Bucket Truck
On November 4 around 12:40 pm, William Ivey, 20, of Bremen, Ga., was operating an International commercial utility bucket truck on Botsford Hill Road when the boom of the truck struck the railroad bridge. The driver was issued a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control sign indicating the clearance height of the bridge.
Overturned SUV
On November 3 at about 9:33 am, State Police report that Harry Parker, 77, of Southbury was traveling on I-84 eastbound near the Exit 10 on ramp operating a 2002 Toyota Tacoma SUV when the driver swerved to avoid another state DOT vehicle, struck a light pole, drove across the on-ramp and overturned on the right shoulder. No injuries were reported, and the driver was issued a warning for failure to drive in an established lane.
Not Insured
At about 6 am on November 3, State Police reported that a commercial vehicle owned by Carolina Tree Care of Aiken, S.C., was traveling on I-84 west, just east of Exit 11 when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Honda Civic being operated by Peter Diliberto, 28, of Naugatuck. The Honda was totaled and towed from the scene while the commercial vehicle sustained minor damage and was drivable. It was determined that Diliberto was operating without insurance, and he was arrested on the charges of following too close and failure to maintain minimum insurance. He was released on a $1,000 nonsurety bond pending a November 19 court date.
Lost Control
On November 6 at about 8:51 am, Katherine Sasanoff, 61, of Louis Hill Road, Sandy Hook was operating a 2011 Honda Accord Eastbound on I-84 just east of the Church Hill Road overpass when she was struck by a 2005 Volvo XC70 being operated by Amy Caporale, 16, of Northridge Drive, Newtown. State police report that Caporale lost control of the vehicle, and she was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane. No injuries were reported and the Volvo was towed from the scene.
