Newtown High School Runners Compete In State Open
Newtown High Schoolâs boysâ and girlsâ cross country teams, coming off their eighth-place finishes in the October 29 state championships, competed in the State Open to take on the best all class sizes in the state on Tuesday, November 8. The Open was held at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.
According to results posted on www.casciac.org as of Wednesday afternoon, the Newtown boys placed eighth among 18 schools, and girls were 15th among 18. The CIAC announced on the site that the results do not include the finishers from the boysâ Class SS race or the girlsâ Class SS and S races, and that those results will be merged into the final tallies and posted later in the week.
The Newtown boys, led by Jake Feinsteinâs fourth-place finish in a field of the 159 competitors posted, compiled 200 points. Fairfield Prep, led by first-place finisher Connor Rog, won the meet with 109. Rog finished in 15:22. Feinstein came across the finish line in 15:58.
In the girlsâ race, Ridgefield won with 83 points, and Newtown had 303 points. Glastonburyâs Reid Watson won the race in 18:35. Newtownâs top finisher was Katie Burns, who was 53rd among 154 runners in a time of 20:17.
